I feel that adding campfires to the game would benefit several aspects of the game (I hope this hasn't been suggested already). It would take 3x Logs (Wood) and 1 flint & tinder to make (or coal). This would most likely be good for players starting new games so flint & tinder might be a bit too hard to make that early so maybe coal would be a more appropriate replacement. Using the Fire would open with a crafting table window that would have 3 slots for cooking and can only cook food, no smelting.
-I like to explore a lot and therefore need a lot of food but cooking things one at a time can be irritating sometimes. With a Campfire you could cook 3 things at a time making the task go much faster.
-To me, cooking food in your Forge just seems a bit odd. That you would cook your food in the same place you just smelted iron 5 minutes ago is just weird. Cooking your food on a Campfire just makes sense to me.
-A Campfire would not spread fire to nearby objects like regular fire does so it could be used for people would want a fireplace in their house without having to make an enormous fireplace to stop their house from catching on fire.
-Players on their first few nights could make one for light and a more definitive way to mark their homebase.
You seem to be new to this part of the forums, well to the forums in general
I'd just like to point out that this has already been suggested before, and that you could avoid re making threads by searching, the search bar might be down but google still works

Wait, just as a side note. What does it matter if this idea has been posted before? Sure, it might of been, but it also is most likely dozen of pages away, and no one will see it. I see no problem with multiple posts, as long as it's not like 10 in a row, you know. It just keeps the idea alive. Just saying.
Campfires....Mmmmm That would be cool actually.

1 thread with 300 voices is greater than 300 threads with 1 voice.
I don't care if a great/good thread has been necro'd if it means it's still alive.

I am aware that the forums rules suggest to avoid re-posting old ideas however there weren't any threads about this on the first page and if there is a search option on these forums I simply wasn't able to find it. Google could work but most of the time it takes me to other sites so I've stopped bothering with it when browsing forums.
In addition, if it has been suggested before I doubt it would have been in the exact same manner as my idea and therefore my idea can either contribute to other people's ideas or be debunked by others who had simply much better ideas in the first place. Either way, my idea still stands and is open for discussion.

I'm all for it but :
- Not allowed to spread fire to a place? I say nay, so people have to be carefull when they light them
- Allowed to cook 3 items @ a time, I don't think so, just keep it for one @ a time, since it would be overpowered with 3
And what would be the crafting recipe?
As I was saying I think not spreading fire or at least reducing the spread radius from 2 to 1 would be good for people who want to make a fire in their house but don't have enough space for a massive fireplace 5x the size of the fire they want to make. Stepping on it would still hurt regardless but small campfire are usually easy to control if they are built right even in tight places.
You might eb right about the 3x cooking but a way to cook more food would be nice, maybe it could cook food at a faster rate than normal?
As my first suggestion it would take 3x logs and 1x Coal

I think Flint & tinder would make more sense but would be harder to make early on.

Think of it like this :
There could be a bunch of suggestions about campfires all with moderate support
Notch comes to the forums un-expectedly and says he is going to implement a couple suggestion that have the most support (very unlikely but possible)
The Campfire suggestions will not get implemented even if it's a good idea, because it did not get support
Again Very Unlikely but possible
(The day Notch decides to do that is called Judgment Day lol)
Anyways....About the campfire

So kind of like the Campfires from Fallout: New Vegas? Never used those but I like this idea.
You made me want to make a fire pit in my backyard.
