I just had this idea for a neat minecraft server game type. What you could do is make a map where people get divided up into equal teams (would probably need at least 5 people on each side) and put on a map with a certain elevation and landscape setup. Then each team would take turns moving their members one at a time. When your character's turn comes up, you get to move, so u can move lets say 5 blocks in any direction (5 in one direction, 4 in one direction and 1 in another direction, etc), then after that you can either melee attack (if there is an enemy player in range), ranged attack (same deal as melee, but with bows and can reach further than melee), use item (apples, meat, etc to heal, buff, etc.), or end turn. The winning team is the one that kills all of the other teams members (duh).
There could be different classes that you pick beforehand, along with different weapons and item sets for each class. There would also be a possibility of multiple different kinds of map (maybe randomized so you don't know what map you are gonna be on until the match starts). Other ideas to expand the gameplay would be like:
-More classes
-More weapons/items
-Incorporating armors
-Possible currency from kills/wins used in stores to buy upgrades
-EXP/Leveling system
-Custom Default skins for each class (with possible multiple costume unlockables)
-Single player mode (Player(s) vs NPC Monsters)
-Treasure chest items on battleground maps
-The list goes on and on
Now I personally know very little about running a server and even less about customizing the server. But I wanted to get this idea out there so I can see if it is a good idea or not, or if there is someone who knows how to do something like this. Also, I needed to right this down, because I'll probably forget it when I come back down.
TL:DR Version: Minecraft + Final Fantasy Tactics = WIN (Someone smart go do this ASAP and let me know)

The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
Turn based kinda kills the point of a sandbox game...
Still, I agree with the idea of a deathmatch game in really small randomly-generated world surrounded by bedrock on all sides. Then the players can set up fortresses and traps to defeat each other. If you die, it's game over. Obviously certain items would need to be more abundant (i.e. sulfur for TNT).
Why don't you just go play final fantasy tactics? Or fire emblem, which is vastly Superior to FFT? Or advance wars? It wouldn't work in minecraft without serious modding.

dude, go request this as a mod or something. Or play a turn-based tactical game . . . There's no need to turn every game into every other type of game just because it's conceivable. Turn-based minecraft would be a reskin of any other turn-based game, with no new mechanics. And don't say placing blocks.
