This is my first post so go easy on me. I love LOVE Minecraft but one thing that bothers me is how you have to look up how to do everything on the net especially the crafting recipes how is the player suppose the figure them out physic powers or something? The game doesn’t give you any hints. Software should be shelf documenting and Minecraft is anything but.
So here is my suggesting. Lets say in the would of Minecraft long long ago there was once a grate and powerful civilization but something happened to that civilization and it just disappeared (oooo mysterious). No one knows what happed to the ancient civilization but remnants of its existence can still be found of in the form of rune blocks. When a player fiends a rune block it will unlock a massages that can be read as many times as the player wants this massage will be the crafting recipes. The way this could be worked is when you mine a block there is a random or not so random chance that not only will the block produce the material but a second block that is the rune block. Like I said this can be done randomly and/or if certain conditions are met like say hitting bed rock or chopping down a tree for the first time. However the rune messages you unlock should be accessible across all save games because variant players don’t want to have to see these message popping up every time they start a new game.
This will serve two purposes one it will make the game self documenting so new players don’t have to search everything on the net. And two it give the game world a little storyline and lore.
Minecraft.net says that Notch reads these so I’m hoping he gets wind of this and considers my suggesting because you shouldn’t have to look things up on the net just to play a game you should just be able to start it and go like you would with a game like Donkey Kong Country.
they intend to make a storyish - introduction that will lead players into the game, presumably including some recipes. Until they figure out what the game is going to look and feel like at the end, I don't expect them to comment on exactly how they plan to go about this. I'm pretty sure there will be sentient NPCs and NPC buildings. this was posted before:
Actual game narrative: "I'm also most likely going to add some kind of narrative to the game so that the player has an actual goal."
but that's pretty old and I dunno if he stands by everything that's on there still. Regardless, you can get a bit of a sense of where things are heading.

If I say anything stupid, assume I'm tired.
