ok this is my first post (yay) im going to be talking about 3 new suggestions hope u guys think notch should add these
First up is dungeon traps =D
---------------------------------------------
Dungeon traps:A dungeon trap is when the world that the player generated has traps of its own since no one is here(or is there?) besides the creepers and animals and stuff the island could have been a island that was once when there were lots of wars here and these people would of set of random traps these traps let to dungeons underneath the island after ur player progresses thorugh the game some of these traps are spawned there is not really anyway to tell but maybe over the trap they're would be coal? when u dug the coal the whole trap fell down and in the trap there are monsters u would only take 2 life points of damage for falling into the trap u would have to kill every monster in the trap before leaving in normal sized traps there would only be around 5 monsters or so and in a large dungeon u can find gold here but there would be around 10 monsters once destorying the monsters a light will appear telling u the right path to get out of the dungeon trap?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quicksand: Quicksand is linked to dungeon traps but not always Quicksand is possible to get out of and will only be found on low areas *NOT IN CAVES* above ground there could be a new item but i dont really know what D: the way that would be the most reasonable could go like this if u get caught in quicksand u have to press spacebar rapidly to get out of the quicksand u cannot hold the space bar to get out of the trap or u will just sink and some quicksand traps will lead to death some will lead to the previously mentioned dungeon traps =D the quick sand with look like regular but when u dig beside the quicksand the sides of the quicksand will be moving showing that it is going down making sandy areas not a good place to make houses u cannot brake quicksand but maybe u can get it in a bucket? and use it as a moat its kindy like lava except u dont have to jump into water lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION:what i mean by intro is the strating screen which most people dont talk about often on minecraft they usually care about the game play well i know there was a tutorial and maybe they should bring that back? another thing is when u select single player before spawnning ull be ready to take off a plane on the plane ur enjoying ur stay until thunderstorms start to gather and the plane goes down the screen will go back and u will be the only survivor the plane will be stuck and u will have to find ur way out which is the first step of minecraft learning to use ur resources so the only way to get out is by searching a nearby passangers luggage and finding a wrench so u can crack open the door and u find urself on this island u try to go back into the plane to get ur luggage but the water quickly devours the plane u turn around and on the top of the screen *with epic music* The minecraft symbol will appear and ur player runs off then u finally spawn on the island =D!

Faq:
Dungeon traps:
Q:If i die in a dungeon trap can i get my stuff back?
A:of course u can ! but the monsters respawn very quick in a dungeon spawn
Q:Will dungeon traps be near the players spawn?
A:NO DUNGEON TRAPS WILL NOT be near the players spawn so this way u will atleast have a sword of bow before entering
Q:What will a dungeon trap look like?
A:in my mind a dungeon trap has 4 crossroads u are in the middle each crossroad has 2 or more monsters u have to kill each monster and then a light will appear telling u the right cross road to take
Quicksand:
Q:if i die in quicksand can i get my stuff back?
A:it depends if the quicksand leads to a dungeon then yes if it leads to death well MAYBE if ur player can grab it and manage to press spacebar quickly then yes u can get ur stuff back
Q:are quicksand traps similar to dungeon traps?
A:well u wouldnt be attracted to it but its also harder to figure out also quicksand dungeons will have no light so it makes it harder to fight
Q:In a dungeon trap can i build objects or destroy objects?
A:well if notch wants it that way then yeah but the walls might be made out of bedrock?
Introduction:
Q:how will i get out of the plane?
A:well i did describe it in there but u will have to search every bag until u find a wrench then right click the door and u will leave the plane
Q:What will the tutorial island look like?
A:in my mind i picture a flat freebuild like land with notches voice teaching u how to play minecraft
Q:what kind of gameplay will the tutorial feature?
A:you will learn to craft with cobblestone and Wood u will also learn about the animals and mobs about minecraft
there will be a random tree u have to walk up to and brake it and then u will learn to make a 5x5 shelter u will also learn to craft a furnace a chest and bed and a Workbench and the basic tools of minecraft pickaxe/axe/shovel and so on!

Did you know that adding punctuation to your suggestions may greatly increase readability of your text so that we as the readers don't have to squint our eyes in a state of utmost concentration to even stand a chance of understanding what you really want to suggest and can spend that same time providing insightful answers and comments instead?
Phew.
Seriously though. Quicksand has been suggested before, but I really like the idea. I don't really think it'd have to be a liquid though; a normal block would fit besser. I love your idea of the top face looking exactly like regular sand while the sides show a slowly "sinking" texture.
May I recommend altering its effects a little? I'd go for the following: If a player walks on quicksand, he slowly sinks in. As long as his feet are submerged by less than half a block, he can simply get out by moving out of the quicksand (his movements are slowed though). If he fails to do this (there should be quite a generous timeframe, something like 5 seconds), he will be trapped inside and slowly sink further down. Of course you could always still try to mine the block of quicksand you're trapped in. Being completely submerged in quicksand would cause the usual suffocating effect.
This would provide a nice new building material for traps, hidden rooms (layer of quicksand with a treasure chamber beneath it, anyone?) and other stuff.
