I'd love to be able to write on both sides of a sign and rotate in minecraft, this would be very useful for my server item shop. I could place a sign on the front door and rotate it to say open and closed. I could also flip signs over to say out of stock, but enough with my reasons. This could be very useful for adventure maps if you wanted a message on the back of a sign to be revealed at a certain time or to create cool sign spinning towers. I'd love to be able to have a sign rotated with a Redstone signal as well so I could have my open and closed sign flip to the closed side at night, when it is booked up to a day/night sensor. I feel this would be a cool idea to add to the game, but why stop there? It'd be awesome if you could rotate all blocks with a click of a button so you wouldn't have to break them and place them again. Thank you for reading this suggestion and I hope this could get added to the game.
I just don't think Mojang would implement block rotation.
Actually, the framework for rotating blocks is already in place, I assume used in the structure block, all they need is a way to use it outside of the structure block. Like some sort of 'rotator' block that rotates a connected block or blocks when powered.

They also do this with the debug stick. It isn't very hard to rotate blocks at all.

Remember those versions that minecraft pranked us with? Specifically:
Minecraft 2.0
Minecraft 1.VR-Pre1
Snapshot 15w14a
Minecraft 3D
Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I really like the first part about signs as it seems more reasonable and possible. I just don't think Mojang would implement block rotation.
This is actually a great idea. Full Support!

Idea; A Wrench that acts like the Debug Stick but isn't cheaty.
My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.
