So, was playing Minecraft and thought, “ya know what would be cool? Backpacks!” Like we have the whole camping ideas and all that, what if, and bare with me, we added backpacks! The crafting would be a a bit cheap, but it would contain 3 leather on top, 3 leather on bottom, 2 iron ingots on the sides, and a chest in the middle. To equip it, it would take the place of your chest plate, sacrificing armor for extra storage to balance the object out with the game. While equipped, it gives you an extra row in your inventory. You could also dye it like wool or leather armors as well. Just an idea, would be really nice:)
While i do like the idea of a backpack what is the difference to carrying a shulker box in your inventory? apart from it gives the look of a backpack and takes your armour slot not inventory slot
Agreed. Usually what's the point of having a backpack when you need to get a shulker box. It be better off with an chest instead.
I mean you could trade the shulker box out with just a normal chest I suppose.
With these 2 posts you turned a useless item, because shulkers already had pretty much all the functionality you were requesting, into a suggestion that would make the shulker boxes all but useless. Shulker boxes are very useful in game items because they offer all of the functionality of your original post, they make the game so much easier the developers decided to put them at the very end of the game. Now you're suggesting a new item that has all of that functionality, plus you can put it in an armor slot, plus you can put shulker boxes inside it for infinite storage- and all of this after killing a few cows, chopping down a tree and smelting 2 iron ingots... No, just no. Video games are all about balance and although your original suggestion didn't serve much of a purpose this new crafting recipe and described behavior is something we can be fairly certain Mojang would never introduce since it makes an super-charged version of an end-game item craftable after a few minutes of playing.
If you really like the idea of backpacks, then make them something truly balanced and different from existing game items. When people pointed out it was just like a shulker box, your response was to make the backpacks better and easier to make but balance dictates that if something is easier to make it should be worse and things that are better should be harder to aquire. Now if you were to keep your new crafting recipe, reduce the number of inventory slots of the pack from 27 to 9 or 18, and make it so backpacks MUST be in the chest armor place to see and interact with their inventory slots: then we'd have something really unique and balanced to think about and consider. I could even see myself wanting and using such an item. As your suggestion exists it has no support from me and I doubt Mojang would ever consider it either.
I was thinking that as well, maybe the backpacks could only have limited storage. That of, let’s say half a regular chest, and I guess it could use the same rule as a shulker box, which doesn’t allow other storage items to be stored in it (like other backpacks and shulker boxes)

See, now we're getting somewhere. One thing I will mention is that minecraft is set up to use multiples of 9 in the inventory so doing 'half' of 27 would look a little wierd, you'd be better off going for 9 or 18 so you have 1 or 2 full rows. Now, that's still pretty OP considering what it offers: the shulker box will give you 27 extra slots you can only access when the block is placed into the world and is crafted using 2 end game items. Yours now offers less slots with earlier craftability but I feel like the 'only when placed in the world' aspect of the shulker box still needs a corresponding de-buff for the backpack. That is why I was thinking 'can only be seen/filled/used when the item is in your armor slot' which may not be very realistic, since normally you take backpacks off to take stuff out, but it would basically give you the option of sacrificing protection for the benefit of additional inventory slots. Now, in my mind, when the pack is equipped these slots would be added over your player inventory as extra slots you can access just like the rest: but this isn't my suggestion- how would you balance it?
Once you feel like your suggestion has evolved to a point that the first post doesn't really cover it, go ahead and update your original post for new readers so they don't have to read through all of this type of stuff. WHen you feel you have a really nice and balanced suggestion, you'll be ready to go ahead and submit it to Mojang as a feature request. BTW- Welcome to the forums XD
If it's added, it should be less powerful than the ender chest (e.g. by having fewer slots or taking the chestplate slot), and you shouldn't have the ability to use multiples of them as with shulker boxes.

All heil to me.

With the backpack you could put shulker boxes in it.

Much better. Because there would be no reason to craft a backpack when you already have something that is exactly the same thing. It makes so sense.
And you can do the same with a shulker box?
All heil to me.

Actually... backpacks are a pretty much a well recieved idea if we compare them to those as seen in some mod packs.
Those are in most cases extra storage spaces you can access from your hotbar whilst right clicking (essentially a shulker
box you don't have to place on the ground).
Even though a shulker box can be used just as well, not everybody likes the idea of having to kill the dragon and find an
endgame city to build one of these (I don't really care... doesn't take that long to get the diamond gear... it is the enchanting
that takes the longest). This is what I have observed with people on servers that just do most stuff in the overworld (like building
'towns' and kidnapping villagers with minecarts/boats, or just playing as farmers/explorers, that would like to extend their
inventory while staying in midgame for all of eternity).
Guess it all boils down to a matter of taste and a bit of balancing (as in it could conflict with the already existing and harder to get
shulkerbox, if a leather backpack exists... even if you make the capacity of the backpack smaller... people will probably just
farm cows/leather to build more of them to compensate this...)
Oh well... I personally would like to see them in the game. But I guess the boxes were there first and the backpacks are difficult
to balance (I also have to agree on the "sacrificing armour slots seems counterproductive" part already mentioned above).
Idea: Being able to wear shulker bokesvon the chest slot for an easier-to-use-than-a-shulker-box backpack.
My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.
Similar to the drawback of having an Elytra? This could work... would be a backpack (sort of), while also preventing
the Shulkerbox from becoming obsolete. Still sounds like a weird idea though... but then again. This is the game
were people punch floating trees and craft a fully equiped workbench from nothing but four boards of wood...
(don't get me started on the jukebox).
Well Backpacks are easier to get other than the shulker boxes.
If they were easier to get than shulker boxes, they would make shulker boxes redundant.

The backpack could be a mini shulker box for early game.
I know it would help me out on that first 3 hour mining trip I do on every new world.
