I went to the nether for the first time the other day. I had just gotten the obsidian and decided to make the portal right there in the cave where I had mined it. Everything went smoothly, I spawned in an underground cave with no exit to the surface and ran around a bit and decided to leave since it was just a cave with nothing in it.
I didn't have anymore obsidian so I broke the portal I had made, trekked back to my home far away on the surface and reconstructed the portal. To my surprise I ended up back in the same cave. I then decided to read up on the nether and found out about the portal algorithm problem as well as the problem if the overworld portals are too close.
I have tried multiple times to move the portal in the overworld and it always takes me back to the same cave. Furthermore it respawns a portal in the overworld in the same mine where I made the first.
I would very much enjoy seeing the Nether that everyone seems to enjoy, with it's wide open spaces and constant threat of death. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Is this a known issue and I should have searched better?
I think its hilarious that you made an account to post this, then posted it in the wrong section >.>. Just dig out, that simple. Be wary of digging down though, you could just fall from the nether ceiling into an ocean of lava. /experience
I tagged this as in the wrong section. It should be moved once a mod gets around to it (God knows when).
Anyway, I have been having glitches with the nether as well. In one of my worlds, each portal on the surface leads to the same portal in the nether, and each portal in the nether leads to the same portal on the surface.
About the wrong section thing. Sorry I suck at clicking the right thing sometimes.
Anyway yeah I've tried digging in every direction. The results are a lot of Netherrack... and some frustration. But mostly Netherrack. I do have a handy one way teleport too my favorite mine though. Yay!

All right everyone, if we don't buy Lamborghinis for one day, the price will go way down and then we can all afford one. It's Economics!
