Important : I'm sorry if there is already a thread about this and if this post is not well organized ( i'm fairly new to forums) anyway on to my proposal
TNT Cannons uselessness
At the moment TNT cannons are generally not worth the hassle, on both SMP and SP. The reason being is they cost to much maintain, to hard to control and master, and to limiting to be anywhere near effective as a bow or even a wooden sword. The best and most affordable TNT cannon is the mini Imperial Avenger, because of its adjustable aim and lowest maintenances cost (compared to other cannons.) And even then the ammunition (TNT) is the problem.
At the moment it takes X ( X being 1 or greater) amount of TNT blocks as ammunition to fire 1-3 amount of TNT cannonballs at a target at far range. even if you fire you would have a random chance to hit that target, a VERY random chance and mostly you would miss. And now you spent X amount blocks of TNT blocks to hit some dirt and the target is hopping around as if nothing happened. Sure your in no real threat against any AI that is far away (unless that target was a actually a mob of zombies coming to drill your defense because its a red moon that night)
Gunpowder Block
Its a simple yet a genius idea I had, simply make the already existing gunpowder into a gunpowder block.
Simply put it acts like a normal block of TNT tho like a steel door it can only be activated by redstone, and additionally can be activated by a flint and steel. The Gunpowder block does not produce any block damage neither player damage, this makes it more useful then TNT itself, now you can rocket jump (Gunpowder jump) over to your air fortress because water elevators are for B****S (and none of those can get up there by randomly taking one up) you still face fall damage so be careful
I can also see new roller coaster tricks with this and other cool stuff done. and its not hard to program in, it just improves on what is already there. and still those creepers are probably made of gunpowder ( i'm not surprised they don't drop TNT blocks instead)
A delightful case of MiniCreepers
Simply put baby creepers in a box heres a way to create in my brain = slimeball = gunpowder = obsidian = Minicreeper
Heres the construct of a MiniCreeper =
Then the box of course with them
Its hard to find slime as is and obsidian has only two uses which is for the portal and for huge a** impenetrable walls (and safe bunkers.) I know notch has his own thoughts on slimeballs but this would give it an extra function and your going to be down at level which you will see plenty of lava and maybe a huge slime which can give you some of his slimeballs. essentially its granted that you wont see this block in action for a long time ( or never because slimes never spawn at some peoples worlds.)
At any rate this block functions (no surprise here) like a TNT block with a twist. It doesn't explode on impact instead it spawns 5 Minicreepers that target any mob in a certain vicinity (25-40 blocks maybe?) whether being a pig to a or notch himself . If they don't find a target then they will stand still until one moves in the vicinity or stand there for 20-30 seconds and explode. This makes the TNT cannon into a sort of a heat seeking explosive shotgun, just made that up but like with the shotgun you don't need master aim to cause some damage.
I'm having a little debate with myself on what i mean by Minicreepers are actually
1. at first it was a miniature (no duh) version of a creeper doing less damage less blast radius and less health then the original and explode on auto within 30 seconds of living but that would make the Mini quite underpowered
2. the second idea was the original creeper with just the timer and if they didn't catch a target they would simply die with no explosion, I like this one much more as that the attackers had to have good gear (iron armor) in order to take on a fortress that was equally prepared for them in combat and even then the defends had an edge in battle (remember its not easy to get this kind of material in SMP, first the slime then the obsidian) I don't want people to simply ignore the Minicreeper as if its a chicken hopping around on the battlefield. Minicreepers should make the battle more chaotic. The creepers serve no side they attack everything including those stupid chickens.
anyway feel free to discuss I take all criticism . i'l add on to this if I have some other ideas (like the TACTICAL missile, its more tactical then you think man) or if this topic gets some light.
Sounds pretty interesting, but wouldn't the gunpowder block be harder to make than TNT, and where would you find these mini-creepers.
just change the original gunpowder into the gunpowder block. if you had to gather 9 gunpowder to make it then the cost would far greater out weigh everything else and leave this as useless as that dam powered minecart.
The mini-creepers I stated would be built out of a slimeball and gunpowder block. Jjust look at the two mobs, the slime is a green bouncing cubical ball, and the creeper is a green monster who can explode or be killed and drop gunpowder as a reward. From my standpoint it would be minecraft logical and the slime itself is rare to find making the minicreepers hard to get. But if you do find some slimes you got yourself enough slimeballs to stock up on a few of thoses baddies for a fight
T.N.T does damage even if submerged into water 'nuff said.
as said the Gunpowder block doesn't necessarily add anything it just takes the existing gunpowder that is only used for TNT and adds a lot more flexibility to the item and to minecraft as a whole
In other words
Existing Gunpowder
-Drops from creepers
-used to make T.N.T
Gunpowder Block
-Drops from creepers
-used to make T.N.T
-more effective to use for Cannons as the powder rather then TNT
-can be used to decorate a house
-can be used for rollercoaster
-can be used to jump at a greater height and distance
-Traps
-more use for Redstone circuits
-castle defense
-blah blah blah it goes on most likely
The Gunpowder block is practically the Defense version of the TNT block in that it
-cant destroy anything
-cant damage anything
-can only be triggered by Redstone or alternately with flint or steel one by one
what isnt to like about this idea i don't know, care to share?
