Yeah so I was thinking, what if there was like a dual handed pick item that you could use to climb the walls of mountains or cliffs?
the crafting would be like this []
That would be one awesome adventure item in my opinion. :biggrin.gif:

Get more ideas and indepth to how this would work and maybe...
For one, Will it have a duration bar/Usage like the rest of other tools?

hmm... well I guess you would have to equip the item then just swing at a wall, then as you keep pressing clicking your character would automatically switch to the other hand and... well you get the point
and of coarse there will be a duration bar...
did that clear it up for you or did I need more details xD
Because I like the idea, I'll elaborate with my thoughts.
Pitons
[] []
[] [] []
Aesthetics: Two small spikes that are held in each hand. Driven into a cliff to climb up walls.
This item is equipped like usual tools. When swung at a wall, the pitons pulls the user up to the y-axis level of the block. The pitons can only be used on a visible vertical surface that has room adjacent to it for the player to occupy.
You CANNOT do:
[] Wheeeeeee!
You CAN do:
Aiyeeee! Hugs!
If you unequiped the pitons while climbing, you fall (You can switch between pitons mid-climb without falling). Pitons cannot be used while falling, due to the fact that they need to be "Hammered in". Pitons cannot be used on sand, lava, water, leaves, or glass. If attacked while using pitons, you fall. Pitons can be made of different materials, from wood to cobblestone to iron and diamond
Wood Pitons - 30 Uses
- Takes durability penalty when used on stone or ore.
- Cannot be used on diamond, gold, iron, obsidian, or bedrock blocks.
Stone Pitons - 60 uses
- Can be used on anything
- Takes minor durability penalty when used on stone or ore.
- Takes durability penalty when used on diamond, gold, iron, obsidian, or bedrock blocks.
Iron Pitons - 115 uses.
- Can be used on anything.
- Takes minor durability penalty when used on diamond, gold, iron, obsidian, or bedrock blocks.
Diamond - 200 uses
- Can be used on anything.
- Does not suffer durability penalty.
Obsidian - 80 uses
- Can be used on anything.
- Does not suffer durability penalties.
- Can be used on horizontal surface (i.e. You can hang from the ceiling with this).
Harness [] []
[] []
= Wool
Aesthetics: A rope that ties around one's body and attaches to pitons.
When equiped while climbing with pitons, a harness is automatically used. When used, the user does not fall like usual when the pitons are not equipped, essentially allowing you to remain suspended in air. With a harness attached, the user can equip and use any other tool or regular block like usual (Placing blocks, mining, shoveling, ect.). When the user is done, they must re-equipped the pitons, and the harness will automatically be replaced in the inventory. They can then carry on as usual.
If attacked while suspended, the user does not fall.
Or you could just jump underneath you and place a block. That works quite well when I climb mountains. Besides, mountains are not much more then very large hills in minecraft.
Suggested many times in the past, but a good idea nonetheless. I would favor this over pillaring or carving out a stairway, as it would allow you to move through territory without disturbing the natural landscape, either to preserve its natural beauty or to traverse enemy lands without alerting anyone to your presence. It would also be quite useful for navigating back down a mountain without risk of murdering yourself. I award you one Notch-head of approval.
