In the new 1.14 update, villagers are even dumber than ever before imo. Farmers don't harvest fully grown crops properly, can still get stuck behind long walls, forgets to close doors when entering/exiting buildings, opening doors when Vindicators try to attack the target villager inside the building and get themselves killed, walking on campfires and hurting themselves, falling from tall heights... the list just goes on.
In short, they really need to fix their AI.
For new villager variants they can add two new variants: Alchemist and Protector.
Alchemist will focus on selling potions, and buying exotic potion ingredients (example: you can trade Netherwart, Blaze Powder, Ghast Tear and Fermented spider eye for emeralds), along with the ability to throw a splash potion of harming to attacking pillagers and splash potion of healing to nearby player, villagers and iron golems during raids and sieges as self-defence. After a raid, if you have Hero of the Village effect active, Alchemist can throw a splash potion of Luck II at you.
Alchemist Profession block will be the Brewing stand.
Priest new Profession Block will be the Lectern, while Librarian's profession block will be a Bookcase.
A new rare VIllager Variant: Protector.
you can have one Protector in a village for each Anvil present in the Village. They are armed with a Leather helmet and a wooden sword and a shield at first.
Like villagers, they have 4 tiers: apprentice, journeyman, expert, Master. Tiers increase as Protector gains experience from killing Hostile Mobs (they will not attack Creepers or Endermen). At Journeyman, it will gain chain helmet and stone sword. Expert, Iron helmet and sword. Master, Diamond Sword and Helmet.
Unlike Iron Golems, Protectors do not just mindlessly patrol around the village center. They also have a more defensive attack pattern: they will attempt to block projectiles and melee attacks with their shield before fighting back with their sword .
If a Vindicator breaks the Protector's shield guard with its axe, the Protector will go berserk on the attacker until it can use the shield again.
Protectors, also have their own unique schedule:
At Day, the Protector will patrol near their assigned Anvil.
In the Afternoon, Protector will patrol around the village Meeting Point.
At Night, the Protector will patrol around a sleeping Priest villager.
In the Morning, the Protector will visit a nearby Alchemist villager that will throw a splash potion of regeneration and/or healing at him.
Killing the Protector, zombie variant or not, will not cause it to drop their equipped gear on death regardless of Luck effect or Looting enchant level.
