I have been having some pesky crash problems that cause me to lose some very tediously built structures. This really puts a dirt block in my lava spout.
OK, picture this, whenever you hit the 'X' button at the top of the Minecraft client, it force saves the world without you being able to stop it. Or it should at least ask "Do you want to save your progress?" so you know you've screwed up and clicked the 'X' button.
I always save my worlds before I exit, but recently, abrupt crashes have left me with entire hours of saves being destroyed. My floating river? Reduced to a floating line of dirt...
These crashes seem random, I'll be doing something, and then BANG, the window closes without a problem. It just completely vanishes from the screen and from the processes menu.
I know I should be "esc saving" more often, but it would be nice to have an option that says something along the lines of "Force save every (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc...)" and would prevent some data from being lost, should you decide to either ragequit or the game crashes.
P.S. I'd appreciate if you could quit with the condescending replies. You aren't THAT Important.

MINECRAFT HAS TAKEN CONTROLL OF MY ENTIRE LIFE AND I AM OKAY WITH THAT NOW
There are some tools in the Mapping and Modding forum (not mods within themselves put little files you run alongside minecraft to back it up at time intervals) also make sure your Java update installed correctly. Mine did not, and it resulted in a total unrecoverable file death. If it's updated, then your problem might be solved.
Other than that, I thought it autosaved anyway. Whenever I alt + F4 out of minecraft everything is the same.
What gets me with crashes like this is your inventory is saved all the time but the world is only saved so often. These crashes either cause item duplication or the loss of material/tool durability.

All right everyone, if we don't buy Lamborghinis for one day, the price will go way down and then we can all afford one. It's Economics!

How can you guys be so stupid?
It only saves in the menu screen (when you press Esc) or when you "save and quit".
I usually play Portal 2, TF2, L4D, Fallout 3 and Super Meat Boy in it!
I don't think so. The game saves chunks every so often. I've had my game crash and some of my chunks reverted but others saved.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
