First time poster here! Id like to start off with a suggestion. I would like to submit an idea for 2 new items for minecraft. I feel like the inclusion of these will go a long way to help out explorers like minded people.
Sextant - reveals to the player their x,y,z coordinates in real time (same as hitting F3 in Java) this would allow an ingame way of seeing where you are (without having to resort to hitting F3 all the time)
Astrolabe - allows the player to input x,y,z coordinates and have the pointer direct them to said coordinates. Basically a "programmable" compass.
Hopefully, someone at Mojang will read this and consider.

Actually, we console players already have access to the coordinate panel. You can toggle them in the settings.

You said that you can just hit F3. So why is a sextant necessary when hitting F3 is so much easier than some item that takes up inventory space?
I like the astrolabe idea though. Makes navigation much easier.
I really like this idea, especially the sextant. If a lot of us are going to use the coordinates anyhow, then let's incorporate them into ordinary gameplay.

Yup. This sounds like a good addition for those who don't want to cheat using the console... though that is
subjective since not everyone would consider using f3 cheating... but then again. I hardly used the compass
or maps before the addition of waypoints (back then I just wrote coords. down in a book and made copies
of said book... I basically had a small collection of books were I noted interesting sites).
This is also less immersion breaking than using your prophetic abillity of knowing your exact position in the
MC universe at any given time... well at least the coords.
Support.

I think this is a really great idea, like T0gaJohn says, they should be incorporated into ordinary game play!
