This is a topic about, well, more realistic world generation in minecraft. I mean like, generated more closely to match real life. Now, however, I kind of like how it generates stuff now, I just think that it could also be more realistic, maybe have an option in the world menu to generate realistic worlds.

3. Coal? Yes
4. Mountain height
1. Main concept
Okay, I think that the minecraft world generator could use a little work, if you want a realistic world. You should be able to turn Realisticworldgen on or off though, for those who still like crazy stuff like floating islands. Like I do.
2. Iron+Beaches= <3
So, have you ever been to a beach, and you saw some stuff in the sand, and it was black and powdery, like the sand itself, only black?
THAT IS AN IRON-RICH MATERIAL, SUCH AS MAGNETITE. On the beaches in minecraft, it should generate this iron, err, iron dust, in the beach sand, on the surface. It should look like coal, with the black stuff with the sand texture behind it.
You should then be able to either smelt it directly into iron ingots(unrealistically), or you should be able to craft it into iron ore dust, which is basically the raw iron ore without the stone behind it, because it would be weird if the stone just appeared. You should then be able to smelt this into iron ingots. And it should be found abundantly in the beaches, and maybe four (4) iron dust = one ironore dust. Yes, it actually is iron-rich material. Look it up.
3. Coal
I was recently paying attention in science class, and I learned that the rocks in the real world are in layers, like an onion. And there is a coal layer. Yes, what I'm saying is that if there is an area with limestone underneath the dirt, then chances are that there is a coal layer underneath it. And not just a thin, one-or-two meter thick coal layer. Noooooo, I'm talking about a layer that can be as thick as a pine tree is tall. That's a lot of coal. Now, if you think that that's a little TOO much coal for a game where you rely on coal for life and all that, I actually (Sort of) agree with you. But it's realistic. Also, in case you didn't know, coal is mostly formed by the remains of plants and animals, so it is also found in large quantities in swamps. So, in swamp biomes, coal should be abundant underneath the water and ground, not to far.
4. Mountain height
Maybe you'll agree with me, maybe you won't. But I think that mountains just aren't tall enough. And neither is the height limit. But, that's for another time(and place: check out this forum for the increased map height argument: Increased Map Height thread)
I think that's all for now! Tell me what you think!

Goodness me, I need to get this addiction under control...
And why not? It's not as if it's not realistic. And if you don't want it to be realistic, there should be an option to turn it off. If you don't like the idea, you should post a reason why, not just saying that you don't like it. I want constructive criticism, not people saying that they disagree just because.

"It's optional" is a lousy excuse.
Iron would be too easy. Coal is already abundant as hell.

If this thread were a girlfriend, it'd do everything but anal.
Minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic, but it can be
Anyways
1: I don't get what you are saying here
2: It should be like 9 Iron dust or what ever in a furnace = 1 iron ore and make the Iron in Sand rare, so this won't make Iron too easy to get (make it near or under water mostly)
3: This is already here (sorta) certain minerals appear in certain minecraftian Layers
(the layers in minecraft differ from the ones in the real world)
4: I sort of agree, there should be rare mountains (I have my own thread for an increase in height , but I support his too, sorta)

I will be using them soon

Iron in the beaches, yes; but it needs to be balanced.
As suggested above, make it 9 iron sand = 1 iron ingot. ALSO. Make it so it requires a stone shovel or above to harvest this. Preferably an iron shovel. If the iron sand is harvested any other way, it'll just yield regular sand when broken up.

1. That's just me explainingwhat the thread topic is about that you should be able to turn realistic world generation on/off
2. Yeah, you're probably right, but I find this stuff everywhere in my beach, it shouldn't be too rare, but you should need a lot of it or a special way to extract the iron or something.
3. I know about the layers thing, I'm talking about a layer of coal that's only coal, and is several meters thick. A lot of coal, I know. Like the coal-filled planetoids generated by the planetoids map generator.
4. Yeah, I just sort of had to post that one, since I posted all this other stuff.
And ya know what? Trinitrotoluene (TNT) isn't very realistic in-game. First, it looks like a bunch of dynamite. Second, it's crafted the way dynamite SHOULD be. Third, sulfur isn't related to either of them. Fourth, you Creepers should go back to dropping gun powder, and instead of TNT, you should be able to make a powder keg. That would be sweet. Or if Creepers are to continue dropping sulfur, you should be able to craft it into gun powder using sugar or charcoal, potassium nitrate, and graphite.

Yeah, you should have to harvest it with a certain shovel, that would make it more balanced.

To be fair, the Looney Tunes probably went a looooong way to confusing TNT and dynamite in the minds of most.

I say do it. But make it so we can chose what we want. If we don't want the coal, then we shouldn't have to pick it. You should hurry up on that mountain hight thing... I really would like to see it :biggrin.gif:

tell the guy who came up with the custom difficulty idea that saying "its optional" makes you look bad.
Custom difficulty is optional by nature, because it's custom. And that was a hell of a great idea.
