Before you stomp all over me about even considering the concept of gunpowder-based weapons in Minecraft, hear me out...
This would be a blunderbuss, which is a very early and very short-ranged shotgun as opposed to a game-breaking grief sniper. Practically one step away from being a melee weapon. To fire, the player needs gunpowder and "shot" in their inventory.
The blunderbuss would fire a blast with heavy knockback that quickly gets wider and less effective the further it travels. This would give the weapon a niche role as an anti-swarming tool, able to blow multiple mobs away from the player and giving them some breathing room.
While the crossbow can fill this role to some degree with the multishot enchantment, there are only three projectiles and they only spread horizontally, giving the blunderbuss plenty of room to shine with its circular and saturated spread. It has a lengthy reload process, requiring the character to pour the gunpowder in, then the shot, use the ramrod to cram it all down, and pull the hammer back.
Blunderbuss Crafting Recipe:
2x Iron Ingots (barrel)
1x Iron Nugget (trigger)
1x Flint & Steel (hammer)
1x Stick (ramrod)
3x Wood Planks (grip)
Shot (6x) Crafting Recipe:
3x Andesite (decently analogous to lead?)
New Enchantment:
Newtonian - Firing while in mid-air will send the user flying in the opposite direction with no falling damage (Force-a-Nature anybody?)
Alternatively, the player can hold fire charges in their offhand and fire those from the blunderbuss instead of shot, extending their range with a more incendiary option but still requiring skillful compensation for its slow speed.
I could use some ideas on what other enchantments it could use... I understand completely if this is unpopular as an idea. I know it's niche.

Rather than Andesite, it should use iron to craft the shot, as that'd be the closest, apart from gold. Another decent possibility would be to use cobblestone.

While this is a fine idea (has some creative uses for fire charges)... I'm afraid MJ has already put a big "no" on the
subject of adding firearms to the game with their reasoning being the age restriction of the game (so they say).
So in short some ideas will be rejected right from the start by Mojang no matter how well thought out an idea might
seem (like primitive muzzle loaders or any form of non potion based magic or a use for poisonous potatoes...), which
is sad really.
Though I do consider the crossbow they have added lately as a compromise between a bow and a 'gunlike' weapon.
I like your idea but I'm sorry to say it won't get very far... There used to be the "Old Weapons" mod or even "Balkon's
weapon mod" that had some nifty stuff.
None the less I wish you luck.
