So I was thinking about 1.14 and how it will likely have a combat update and I'm a fan of potions, crafting them or using them in combat.
I had an idea that crafting a Potion Bag would be a neat idea.
What the Potion Bag does is hold 3 or 6 of any potions, and when equipped to your offhand, the player will right-click and will automatically equip the first potion slot available if they are not holding an item, right-click again to throw or use the potion like normal.
This will help free up inventory slots for people who use potions in combat, and I believe would be a neat addition to combat in the game.
I find it rather annoying that, when using potions in combat I use a lot of my 9 slots on the quick-bar, or going back into inventory menu to replenish those slots. It will also help give a player a mage class feel when playing Minecraft.
The loss of a shield may be meaningful as a countervailing 'debuff' for some…
Removing the implicit ability to spam right-click would also be useful in avoiding a potion-machine-gun effect.
Moving an item first from the potion bag into an empty hotbar slot (rather than always directly into the main hand) and adding a cooldown (somewhere between sword & axe ?) between activations of the potion bag would be one way of accomplishing this.
Changing the added item from a bag to a bandolier which replaced a piece of armor (as the elytra does the chest plate) would be another.
[Unfortunately, the chestplate makes the most logical sense as the armor item to be replaced, but this would involve a single three-way decision about the slot; from a game options perspective, having the bandolier replace the legs would increase the available number of options for a player.]
