So on pocket edition you can have skins by 128 pixels by 128 pixels. Why not in Java? Please it would allow the community to become so creative with skins and it’s just a suggestion from a skin creator who is using apps allowing those pixels but doesn’t use pocket edition. If it’s a tedious thing to do I understand but I would love to see this in Java

I agree. The current avatar resolution is just too cramped. This would lead to some epic detailed skins.
However, I also agree with this. So I propose that it would be 64x64.
Either way, I really like this idea.
FULL SUPPORT!
64x64 is the current skin resolution, so you are really saying that the current system should be kept; 128x128 would only double the resolution in each dimension (so the head would be 16x16 instead of 8x8 - this means that current skins effectively have half the resolution of blocks and items, although entities are not directly comparable since they vary in size):
As I recall, another "nope-nope-nope" in the attitude of the Devs is "genitalia art" in skins. Yeah, you can still do it, but with the current resolution it is by default "pixelated out." For every doubling of the resolution, you quadruple the odds of idiots flaunting the size of their avatar's gonads. And since parents can't go after some random kid with tan-elephant head undies, Mojang will have to bear the brunt of the parental annoyance.
Given they've already enough on their plate, Mojang isn't going to do this.
Now there were mods for "HDR Avatars", but last I looked they have been discontinued. https://minelittlepony-mod.com/ As far as I know, the MLP mod is still active and supports "HDR Pony" skins. But I don't think it likely that any higher resolution player skins is going to be a "thing". Anyone offering to support HDR skins is going to be held liable in a court of law for distributing pornography, and it is unlikely anyone with the *means* to mod it in will do so without consulting a lawyer telling them, "Aw hell no!"
So while I like the idea, and I'd really love to have ANY better resolution skin for my ferret avatar, it is unfortunate people suck and make nice things impossible.
I'd considered just 'liking' the post, but the following two bits deserve a bit more recognition…

Heh... https://www.publicknowledge.org/news-blog/blogs/minecraft-lawsuit-minefield makes for an interesting read from eight years ago. I couldn't find it on a quick search, but I recall Mojang getting "cease and desist" from a tabletop game maker because someone published a video and a world download of some popular table-top game people could play using Minecraft.
There is simply no way Mojang is going anywhere near, "Hey, use Minecraft to porn-ify your avatar with the new higher resolution!" Nope... nope... nope...
Well because bedrock on Xbox/PS4 you can't make your own skin or choose a custom skin. On PC you can but again you cannot go over 64x64 pixels because It wasn't approved by Mojang. That's why some of the skin packs are 128x128 because every skin pack goes through Mojang before, it goes public. When you try to input a custom skin that is 128x128 on Minecraft Windows 10 Edition it just pulls up this crap message saying it's not a Minecraft skin.

I'm sorry, but I am able to input a custom skin of 128x128 on Minecraft W10 Edition.
That message only shows up if you try to put one that is higher than 128. (At least for me)
Both the one I was putting and the one I'm using are 128x128.
Now, I think 128 on java wouldn't be an issue, and support it.
As for the issues with nudity and such, maybe mojang should try to find a system that makes the skins go through an approval to be used or not, it would probably make it a little bit annoying to wait a few moments for the skin to actually be usable, but at the same time it would fix the other problem, and I think that fixing the other issue is much more important than having skins not being used instantly.
Maybe some kind of image recognition system, they put some of those not wanted type of skins in the blacklist and let the system do its thing. (I don't know the mechanic behind those things, but I'm sure it's not as simple as I made it sound, regardless, it's just a suggestion)

wait how do you upload a 128x128 skin on Minecraft Windows 10 Edition?? It comes out blank for me
Mojang does *not* have QA staff to watch for bugs. They depend entirely upon the community. Even so, with bugs reported for months, they still let slip through issues that were terrible on the MCJE 1.14 release making it for the most part unplayable.
How does this translate into Mojang previewing a flood of skins, and what liability would they suffer if a few nudies slip through even for TRYING to check through them all?
EDIT: Oh yeah, that's not a newdie pic, I'm just shirtless wearing tan jeans with a front fly. No, seriously!
When I opened this suggestion, this was my immediate concern, although I have to wonder if it's really that much of a problem. Consider the fact that in Minecraft, you can already build genitalia with blocks and write whatever you want in signs or chat. This specific change would just make it slightly easier for trolls to get onto a server and "flash" people before a moderator bans them.
The specific articles you posted to deal with copyright law, which seems to oddly get more attention because people like to sue. I'm not sure what American or European law says about pornography distribution, but games like Roblox already allow for this kind of disgusting, albeit hilariously bad kind of pornification. Google will let minors search for explicit images as well without asking for the user's age.
In addition to that, I'm not really sure doubling the resolution is going to be that bad. If you wanted to display porn on your body and arms for the world to see, a 128x128 skin would give you a whopping 32 x 24 space to put it on! At that point, we're still dealing with pixel art.
There are a few solutions to this problem if you're still concerned. If I had to think of one:
- Add a friends system. You can add or remove a friend using commands. The other player must accept a friend request before both players are made friends.
- The player can decide whether skins are shown for no players, friends or all players.
- The player can decide whether /msg works for only command blocks, friends or all players.
- Potentially other friend-based things could be added, such as a gamerule to disallow friendly fire between friends on servers, etc.
In addition to stopping players from showing you nude skins, this system can also stop strangers from attempting to PM you for personal information after they first meet you. It's not a perfect system obviously, but it adds a small level of security and it means Mojang doesn't have to screen every skin to make sure they're SFW.

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
It would be great if I could have my avatar look more like my ferret persona than what is currently available. Minecraft Earth will allow for people to build things viewable in public that others can see. My concern is that we will have "2B2T" in the face of anyone wanting to play Minecraft Earth. Mojang insists it isn't going to be like that. We'll see how Mojang manages *this* problem and decide if they are competent enough to deal with "HD" skins.
I was admittedly hoping for a more in-depth rebuttal/acknowledgment but okay. I think the thing about 2B2T is that it fully acknowledges and advertises that it is an anarchy server and for that reason, people treat it as such. That being said, I do agree that if Mojang can moderate Minecraft Earth, they can moderate HD skins.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, which I *share* as far as concept. Seriously, I have to wear a bit watching Hytale news for salivating all over myself. Part of that is the "HD" detail and options with characters while still looking "Minecraft-y" pixelated. I'm pretty sure I won't get a "ferret-avatar", but I'm pretty sure I'll be more happy with the level of detail I'd get than what I get for the current Java situation. I don't have any problems at all with the desire and intent of the 128^2 image compared to 64^2. It really doesn't seem much more than 4 times the amount of pixels, and it shouldn't be a big deal. But time will tell how Mojang ends up dealing with Hytale in the nature of avatar customization. Competition forces changes.
In all honesty to the people who say no to 128x128 skins, ANSWER ME THIS if it ruins the simplicity for Minecraft pixels then how come I am able to equip a 128x128 Minecraft skin in bedrock hmm? but in java I can't, wouldn't it ruin the simplicity for bedrock too? I agree with what you’re saying, however having 128x128 support on Java would allow for so much more creativity with creating more detailed skins.
