Challenge mode would be just like hard mode except with some extra challenges.
1. Your hunger goes down 1.25 times faster
2. Hostile mobs do 3 damage more than in hard mode
3. Zombies can break iron doors but it takes a lot longer than it takes them to break wood doors
4. Spiders attack you during day
5. Hostile mobs spawn 10% more
6. Skeletons and zombies always have at least one price of armor
7. Hostile mobs can occasionally spawn in light
8. All light sources emit 5% less light
9. Every time a mob hits you there is a 3% chance that it will instantly breaks one of your armor. If it happens when you have no armor on the mob instantly kills you
10. Dogs take 15% more bones to get tamed
11. Cats take 15% more fish to get tamed
12. Night time lasts 20% longer and daytime lasts 20% shorter
Once challenge mode is on you cannot turn it off. Also, you must turn on challenge mode when you create the world. You will get extra achievements in challenge mode.
Most of these sound like you're just throwing out numbers on how to make something harder without thinking about what those numbers actually mean, and 9 in particular sounds horrible, with it being a small chance of getting screwed with no way to counter it
This isn’t a difficulty... this is a random series of changes in an attempt to appear harder. But in reality you just make the game not fun. Who wants to be insta killed by a random skeleton arrow?
Oh! I forgot about the tridents! Yes those would do something like 27 damage which would indeed insta kill you and those drowned allready have an annoying firing rate to begin with.
I think, if there were to be a “Challenge” Mode separate from Hardcore mode, these might be better changes:
- Tools and weapons deteriorate 1.5 to 2 times faster.
- All ores become harder to find, in veins no bigger than 3.
- Enchantments all lose a level.
- Enemies all do two extra hearts of damage.
- Food items recover less hunger and saturation
- “Food” mobs spawn less than enemies, and only in groups of 2
- Coal will cook and smelt less per piece.
- Loot chests won’t contain nearly as valuable supplies
- Villagers won’t have farms
I dunno, a bunch of changes done to make it harder is what every challenge mode does, no? Most “hard modes” in video games are just enemies doing twice as much damage most of the time.
I’m no good at balancing these kinds of things. What changes would you guys rather see?

That does not sound like fun... nor like a challenge. This would be far worse than playing hardcore.
It would not be in a "Darks Souls" way like challenging, but more in the directions of "severely unbalanced".
A zombie would do 12 damage (6 hearts) so basically hit you twice and you are dead... a skeleton
would do up to 15 damage with their normal rate of fire using the bow... btw a player only takes 20 damage to
kill (like a zombie) and since you character dies in two shots tops, you won't even notice much difference
with the 3% chance of insta killing an unarmoured player. Wearing full diamond armour (unenchanted)
reduces damage by 80% so the skeleton can deal up to 3 damage (which is fair since we are talking
about half an iron sword swipe). Luckily you got 10% more enemies and spiders during day...
creepers now nuke you with 195 damage (97.5 hearts... or 4.875 full player life bars) and we aren't
talking about charged ones yet, since those clock in at 390 damage (195 hearts... or 9.75 full player
life bars). So yeah a single charged creeper would have enough firepower to vapourize approximately
ten or so players with this challenging upgrade.
Maybe you really should crunch the numbers again and tweak them here and there because as of now
I'm not sure if this will be in any way enjoyable... but who knows? Maybe you like to chew nails for breakfast?
-As of now no support...but I'm still open to the very concept of a challenge mode after a few tweaks.-

No Spuuort for the same reasons fishg said.
My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.
If hostile mobs can do 3 times more damage, I think that means things like phantoms and trident Drowned could one shot you, even with some armors.
