I have found it a bit annoying that each piece of pork takes up a spot in my inventory. If Notch decides to add more mobs for hunting (ie bears, mountain lions, ducks, etc) then I believe a game bag will be rather necessary. The way this would work is that you hold it in your inventory, and when you click on it a dialog identical to the one when you put things in a chest comes up. Extra Points This may have 2 rows of inventory space, possible less. You may only put raw meat in it. You may only carry one. It is built like this:
let = wool []
It is rather cheap but I can't think of a way to make it more expensive with the materials notch is giving us right now. Maybe if he adds rope we could implement that.
In regards to hunting in general, I think that bigger game should take up more inventory space. If you kill a bear, it drops several pieces, each healing two hearts, rather than one piece that heals 7 hearts. The animals I listed are just a general idea, I know that a lot of people like the silly, unrealistic mobs, but I think that more "food" mobs are needed, and it's difficult (for me) to imagine food mobs that don't really exist.
I like the idea of a game bag, to store excess meat when hunting
The Other idea...well

Each weapon should be unique and fill a specific niche in combat. Most of these are just swords that do a little more damage or slash a bit faster. My challenge to you is make up a weapon idea that would feel and play COMPLETELY different then a sword or bow and arrow. And small tweaks in stats do not make it feel or play differently.
That works for food as well
