Can we get areas in the nether that can spawn nether silver fish that drop nether dust that can be crafted into nether quartz. So a mini biome like the magma block areas we already have but when you hollow the area out the nether fish still spawn and then we can farm and get nether quartz without resetting the nether removing any farms or builds we've done in there.
Interesting idea for making N-quartz a renewable resource.
Unfortunately, making N-quartz a non-renewable seems to have been a deliberate design decision which makes getting MS/Mj to change this seem unlikely. [Such a reversal would, however, remove a potential point of contention between the redstoners and N-quartz decorators on servers.]
NSF seem somewhat like guardians in the described behavior [Both generate in a defined volume even after the initially generated structure is removed.]
Patterning these after silverfish seems to imply weak mobs that are dangerous only in swarm situations.
Given that the proposed NSF has a drop (and a highly useful one), a mob somewhat 'beefier' individually might be preferred.
What the 'eggs' look like needs to be clarified. As well as the mechanics, which should NOT include insta-break with any tool [as do the disimproved silverfish]. (Insta-break with some tools eg high Efficiency picks being much less of an issue.)
Having the NSF infest a small percentage of N-quartz veins with the possibility of spontaneously regenerating in any blocks placed in those positions would be one option. (Whether or not NSF eggs still drop the block as well as the critter being two sub options; with block dropping preferred if infesting N-quartz.)
Having the NSF infest a small percentage of N-quartz vein sized & shaped volumns of netherrack with the possibility of spontaneously regenerating in only a restricted set of blocks placed in those positions would be another. [Netherrack (although technically a nonrenewable), and stone (any variety, all of which would need to be imported from the overworld) seem two likely candidates. In these cases, having the infested blocks not drop might be preferred. ]
The nether dust >> N-quartz recipe intended is not mentioned, but following the glowstone model of 4:1 seems reasonable.
