Should we in the next update add footballs that could be kicked and be shot by throwing them/kicking them and if a football hits a mob the mob could take 2-8 hearts damage depending on strength, and they could be found in random chests or being crafted with leather and possibly a new material. The footballs could also be used to play soccer games that could be added to servers.

I Like Minecraft! and I hate being killed by mobs or by the Minecraft environment.
Sports equipment doesn't seem a high priority. (Better suited to a mod so the required overhead would only be incurred by those players having a use for the addition.)
Also quite over-powered as a weapon: an unenchanted arrow from an unenchanted bow currently does 'only' 9 damage [41/2] with some chance of 10 damage [5 ]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
Because the only recreational activity Minecraft has implemented is fishing...which apparently makes everyone want to rip their beard hair out with duct tape and crazy glue. Everything else is work or is effectively not implemented: we have written books but no stories to read, we have arrows to shoot with but we have to build our own targets (there are no archery ranges or arenas or anything similar that generates).
Now, granted, a football is probably a bit more pointless for a single-player world since by definition there's nobody to play with you...but that's probably not a good reason for not implementing something strictly intended to have fun with. Besides, if we had some sort of interesting carom mechanics with it we could set up real rube goldberg machines and whatnot to showcase our skills.
But they can be kicked on mobs so the mob takes damage and eventually die, and that football could there be a useful ranged weapon, they could be kicked on skeletons so they die, butyou need then go and grab the football again to use it again, does this make them useful? lol

It’s not a matter of use, it is a matter of theme.

What's the use of footballs existing in a fantasy survival game?
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

Why do we need footballs?

My suggestions: Enhancements - Throwable Fire Charges - On Phantoms and Elytra. Also check out The Minecraftian Language. This signature is not here to waste your space.

This makes no sense I do not want this in the game. It could be a mod but it does not seem like vanilla minecraft
