Attack sheep. Get wool. Use as floor in your house. Bam, there's your carpet.
Optionally, you can dye it with various dyes from flowers, cacti, squid ink, etc.

"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
As... Uh... Well-developed as this idea is, it could stand to use some more fleshing-out.
If I might put in my two cents, carpets should be crafted like slabs are now, except with colored wool, and when placed should appear as a lay, like snow. That way, you have a flat, colorful carpet, without having to tear out your floor and replace it with a meter-thick layer of wool.
The above was lifted from another suggestion for carpets, which was more fleshed-out; I wouldn't expect you to know that, though, what with the search bar being broken.

Are you always so pessimistic?
Yes, yes I am. A pessimist is always either right, or pleasantly surprised.

Egads..this is World of Warcraft meets Battlefield 1942 in a dark alley with way too much to drink and no discarded mattress nearby.
Omg just use wool for a floor! You must be a troll. P_P
Who are you talking to? I don't see how anybody is being a troll, sir.
Either way... While it is possible to use wool as a floor, it is not an optimal solution for efficient architecture. If you were building a multiple-story domicile, you'd have to make each floor (besides the lowest floor) two blocks thick, instead of one block. While this may not seem like a problem to you[/i, others may not feel the same way. I, for one, would like to be able to keep my walls and my floors the same thickness; call it OCD, if you must, but there it is. The carpet would be an elegant solution to this problem.

on topic the carpets could work they could be crafted like so :Green:=pure green carpet
they could also have paterns on them depending on how you craft them
=green carpet with a red cross on it
different colors= different wool colors
now i dont know how hard this would be to craft data for but if it can be done it would look awesome
also carpets must be stackable
