Didn't see anyone else think of this, so....
Rope would be a new item that would be crafted with string or wool. When a block, object, avator, or mob is in reach and you have rope, the rope will attach to that thing and become a independent "block", like a minecart. You automatically pay out and pull in rope when walking away or to that object, except when you hold down Control or pay out all the rope you had in that hand, at which point it "locks" and you can pull the object around (if it's moveable). Clicking the attached object again(Or making it disappear) will disconnect the rope and return it to your hand. If you click on another object while you're handling rope, the other end attaches and you lose control of the rope.
Also, when nothing is in reach the way you're pointing when you click, you will toss a lasso about 10 blocks which will attach to the first thing it hits.
Arrows crafted with rope will act the same as a lasso with better range, but only if you have rope it can switch to(i.e. in the hot bar.)
Before you ask, "How is this useful?", here's a few examples:
Mooring: keeping boats in dock.
Trains: attach a minecart to another minecart, then that to another.....
Navigation: Toss (or shoot) a lasso up a cliff, then pull yourself up.
Combat: With enough people, you could drag someone or something into a precarious position.
Fuses: Forgot to say, but ropes burn. This seemed like an obvious application.
This suggestion is great. You should also be able to tie it to a pig, then tie it to a fence and BOOM, instant pet pig.
You get sponges! :biggrin.gif:

"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
Thanks. I thought the first comment would say this had already been suggested. Any ideas?
