Creepers are the only mob in the entire game of Minecraft that can destroy blocks (Ghasts don't count :smile.gif:). They are really sudden and unexpected, but they're gone just like that. I think that a new mob should be added that can't do much damage to you, but can destroy blocks (albeit rather slowly). They could just be attracted to certain blocks (cobblestone, dirt, etc.) and be repelled by certain blocks (glass, furnace, etc.). When they get to it, they just _slowly_ dig away at the material indefinitely. The purpose they would serve would be to be sort of a nuisance or pest that doesn't hurt or pester you, but will damage your structures if not dealt with. They could be repelled by light (torches, glowstone, lava, etc.) and other special materials like obsidian. This would be to prevent constantly fending them off to protect your structure. For what they would actually BE, I was thinking something along the lines of a large brown rat that is 1 block tall and wide, and 2 blocks long. They would naturally gather in groups to dig through the substance faster. They could also be used as an advantage for mining. For example, the could be placed in a pen and would dig downward. They could be herded around by placing torches where you don't want them to go. Let me know if anyone thinks this is a good idea. Thanks!
Okay, yeah, I'm gonna say it should probably be zombies, and thinking back to zombie movies, what can they get through?
Well, they could break down wooden doors, eventually. Break glass. Um... probably dirt and sand wouldn't be a big hindrance to them on Minecraft, so... let's see.
How about this?
Zombies can dig through some blocks easily, others given time, and glass instantly. (This forces you to put windows back one space from the front, so they can't reach them.) Say they destroy wood at a normal pace, dirt and sand at a slow pace, maybe gravel at a slow pace. Stone they can't destroy, either plain or cobbled. Brick they can't destroy (little pig, little pig, let me come in...).
Note: They don't just destroy any blocks they come to. They only start destroying once they're trying to get to you. They stop if you're out of aggro range.
Also, I can see how letting them destroy glass would be highly irritating to people who make greenhouses (like me). But it should be simple to put the thing up two blocks high with a cobblestone barrier around the bottom.
How much more would this alter building strategies? That's the big concern.

My nephews and I have started posting Minecraft videos on my YouTube channel! Fairly random, but enjoyable.
General schedule is 4 PM Mon-Fri and 10 AM Saturdays. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
But they can't have too much power, because what if you just started the game and your a n00b and- OH I GOT IT. Zombies can destroy harder blocks the harder the difficulty you have the game set to. That way you can live in your wooden house in peace while in easy mode, but change it to hard, and zombies will have you for lunch... *ahem* midnight snack.
Nooooo not zombies :sad.gif: They are fine the way they are imo.
I do not think it should be an animal unless it was something that a lot of people find creepy or scary --- like spiders or sharks.
Ummmm darn or maybe another type of zombie? I like these zombies and I do not really want them changed cuz they are really balanced especially for beginners.
How about mummies? They are undead and seem to be something that will keep chipping at to get to you?
Mmmmm also we need to "vote" what is the best size for the thing. will a 1 x 2 be better or a 2 x 1 etc.
Like this idea, I was just about to post my idea for a hostile/passive mob too lol.
No, what if they spawned in the air and fell instead of flying? And also, I didn't mean CHANGE the EXISTING creeper. I meant since the existing creeper is a block-destroying creature, it's only appropriate that the OTHER block-destroying mob ALSO looks like a creeper. No, I'm not saying it should explode as well. Maybe it could just look like a drill with feet!
I would be fine with Zombies ripping through homes. This would make it so people would build their homes and fortresses in safe places, out of reasonable materials. Nice houses are nice, but if built in stupid places and stupid people luring every hostile mob in sight to their house, then they should have to find a way to keep them away. Zombies are ideal for this, but as long as they aren't COD style zombies, and they retained their Minecraft niche.
I was thinking about a similar mob this morning, I didn't make a post because my (amazing :wink.gif:) pic wouldn't upload to photobucket. Anyways, here it is:
It is 1 block, by 1 block, by 1 block big, and will eat any block it comes across at open hand speed. It moves a bit faster than a player, but slower than a spider. It has 2 hearts and can deal no damage to the player, however it will always try to make 2x1 block holes is Walls to let other mobs in.
In the diagram I've also shown a neutral, daytime model aswel. It will also take this form when hit, it will scuttle as far from the player as possible. When killed it'll drop the last 5 items it ate and 0-2 leather.
Sorry, I took over a bit. But... What d'you think?
Incompetence is a plague. I am the cure.

This.
Make zombies dig at the same speed you do with your bare hands.
Ta da. No more indestructible bases.
