I had a random idea today, it was for a few crafting recipes...
1) Hidden Door - See below is a door.
[] [] []
While it takes 4 bookshelves and 2 doors, it may help protect your things. It looks like a bookshelf but opens similar to a regular door when connected to a redstone circuit or mechanism. Unlike the iron door (which stands out a lot), this would look like a bookshelf, allowing players to hide thier things in libraries or walls of bookshelves.
2) Use for books
Books, as is, do not really do much. What you could do is right-click a bookshelf to open an inventory of books (it would be similar to a small chest). You can place a blank book in it and open a menu where you could (given technical limits) write a book. You could name it and write 6 lines of 15 characters per page, with up to 10-15 pages.
Layout:
Book name by Player
Page 1 line 1
P1L2
P1L3
P1L4
P1L5
P1L6
<Cover | Page 2>
Once you have written your book, it would be added to the shelf for people on SMP or you to read. If you wrote it, you could take it out, edit it, etc. You could even place your books on "Secret Doors"
I know this isn't written all that well, this was the best I could do, I do not have many skills in MS Paint or Photoshop, I do not have many skills in ASCII, and I know these may have been said a few times before, but these are my ideas for these suggestions, and I want your feedback on it. Thanks.
Well, the intent on this is good, and the idea is pretty well thought out. But think, if this gets release and people find out that there are secret bookshelves. These "hidden" doors will turn into just another item to right click like a door for a griefer. But i admit this would look good in house design, as in entrance to a secret layer.

this.
it takes a while to get a painting that is the right size.
But if you use two paintings it only takes about 30 seconds.
