Ok, so ever since squids have been implemented, they have been pretty much just killed for ink, and do nothing else, now I'm not saying that that's bad, but here are some Ideas to make them better.
I
Floating
Whenever a squid spawns, they slowly sink to the bottom of the body of water they are in. I think this is kind of lame. Not only is this unrealistic, but it makes it hard to get that valuable ink! I think it would be much better to have them float around randomly vertically the same as horizontally.
II
Fishing Rods
Squids are hard to get out of the water because of water viscosity, and therefore, I recommend that squids are able to move quickly through water when being reeled in, and are stuck on the line when caught.
III
"Milking" for Ink
In early 1.2, you could "milk" squids for milk, just as you could milk cows. I think it would be cool if you could go up to a squid's mouth with a bucket, and a ink sac was deposited into your inventory. You may have it so you could only milk a squid once a minute, or something like that.
IV
Slightly Ridiculous Idea
Giant Squids! About as rare in the wild as wolves, aggressive, but when they do spawn, they have a length of 5 blocks, and drop a squid helmet when killed. They also have a chance of dropping 0-10 ink sacs. Their attack strength could be more or less.
V
A Truly Ridiculous Idea
Ok, here's my even more ridiculous idea: There are saddles right? Pretty pointless, but AWESOME just the same. I say you should be able to saddle a squid! Think of the possibilities! riding your squid as it slowly floats around. It would be just as controllable as a pig, and just as fun!
Forget squid, I want to ride giant tapeworms into the sunset!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
My only comment is on your first point,
i think squids should stay down at the deepest possible place, BUT, at nighttime, they should all swim upwards and roam around in the top 3-4(more or less) layers of whatever body of water they are in.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think that is how squids behave in real life.
Squids should blind you with ink when you attack them. Also check out my suggestion thread I made. It also has ideas for improving squids. A link to my thread is in my signature's picture.
