I always thought witches not being considered illagers despite being a hostile villager-like mob felt strange, almost as if they were outcasts of outcasts. I feel officially making them an illager instead of their own thing, especially now with pillagers and illager patrols, would help to close this gap.
The ramifications of this would be;
Retexturing them to appear more like illagers, namely grayer skin and a larger mouth
Making "Johnny" vindicators no longer hostile towards them
Making them hostile towards villagers and iron golems
Spawn them in large numbers within woodland mansions, just like the other illagers
Maybe act as a support character in illager patrols; throwing splash potions of healing/swiftness/etc at her fellow illagers
What do you guys think? Should witches continue being their own thing, or join the ranks of the illagers?
Yeah, this seems interesting. I don't think the witch should be excluded, because do you see the pillager running through mansions? Well, maybe. I honestly haven't checked.

Don't hear anyone asking for "Willagers". This just wants to straighten things out which is fine by me. The new illagers create a proper antagonist to the formerly boring villagers.

I do like the idea of Witches working a bit more with illagers, but I think they should retain some level of seperation, so I only can give partial support.

I think witches aren't illagers. You can create a witch by striking a villager with lightening. I consider themselves specific outcasts of the existing villager who turned bad, not the same as the illagers who seem to have their own societal structure going on.

Be their own thing. They do attack all types of golems, including village iron golems, and players, but leave alone illagers and villagers, and illager servants. This means they are aligned more to illagers than villagers, but aren't part of the illager clique. After all, if a villager is struck by lightning in a village, it doesn't attack other villagers. It wasn't made evil, it was just twisted a little.
Having a middle party also adds depth to testificates, plus you could always have existing illager types do what you want witches to do for patrols and the like. Illusioners, Johnny vindicators, and illager beasts currently have no roles in the game proper, and there are other unused neutral/hostile mobs (evil rabbits, giants, zombie horses), that could act as support members in some way.

Pillagers aren't in mansions yet, neither are illusioners, Johnnies, or Beasts. But that doesn't imply witches should be included. You could argue Drowned and Zombie Villagers should be in mansions too then, since they are hostile NPC-like characters.

Heh. That might be interesting but it's a minor feature, plus if witches are neutral why would they and villagers avoid each other? Villagers certainly don't purge witches, they can't even fight illagers despite having weapon smiths and fletchers on tow!

NPCs are going to get people interested because they make the game less lonely in singleplayer. And this update is all about NPCs and crafts of NPCs, so...

I think PixelDestiny is more worried about there being too many hostile NPCs (tell me if I'm wrong!), but since villagers are pacifists, having enemies is just creating a chore and making the player less sympathetic to them since they never learn anything. Willagers don't seem like a likely thing, even if that's what's being suggested here.

Support, but I have mixed feelings. I want witches to be hostile to either both villagers and illagers or neither villagers nor illagers, but having them support one side, even indirectly, makes it seem like they've taken a side.

Witches aren't bad to testificates, though. Illagers are the true outcasts, and they band together apparently. Witches seem like friendly outcasts who just want to be left alone from members of their own race. They attack golems because they're not testificates and can't care, and players because players seem alien and possibly invasive to them.
Any of these paths would be cool. Updating existing content always has some perks over brand-new content. I know I sound adamantly stubborn about not changing witches, but I'd appreciate any changes no matter which way they go. Somehow though, I don't think 1.14 will do all that much to them. They got black cats in their huts. That may be all that they get.
No I just mean like... For the woodland mansion it was funny and cool but now it feels like there are to many illgar mobs and I'm sick of it. Yes the new mobs are interesting and all but come on people do we really want more then half the mobs in the game to have the suffix of "illgar"?

Witches should be left as it is.The fact that they live alone in huts at swamplands shows that they're outcasts of the outcasts as you called them.They simply don't want to be part of any group have it be good or evil, villagers or illagers.They simply want to be alone so making them allies to illagers kinda ruins their theme imo.
It seems that this is going to be in the game, as witches spawn in illager raids as of 18w47a, which indicates a connection between witches and Illagers (Assuming that doesn't change, that is).
