The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
It makes my defenses so ineffective and useless if iron golems will stare at snow golems while the zombies are killing off the villagers. Snow balls deal 0 damage so iron golems should not care about getting hit by snow golems accidentally.
Please. Automata ferrea (AF), or iron golems as you call them, are just…beyond stupid.
I've did several experiments with them. Lure couple undead mobs in my empire, near „village“. AF didn't care. They started casually caring about 30 seconds or so. While sceletons kept shooting arrows on them.
I've dragged 5 AFs outside my border wall, so they will be next to mobs. They, surprisingly enough, didn't care much. 2 nights, they were all dead. Sure, they took down some, but damn, couple of sceletons can take AF down like nothing.
Repeated the same experiments with AF of my own creations, same results.
Again, in some village, again the same.
AF need to be agressive pretty much just like me. I see hostile mob, I kill. Simple. And I kill to the point, when there is nothing to kill.
If you want good defense, build a wall. Big one. Then light up everything. That at least work. Not like AF, which just…walk around, while getting shot by multiple sceletons.
Yeah, at some point in development the iron golem AI was broken. They used to attack zombies and other monsters immediately. Now they get stuck and don't attack.
What's interesting is that if they are not near villages they are fine. So I believe that the problem is the iron golem's (relatively) new behavior of patrolling the village. This behavior has them visit every "house" in the village. They seem to prioritize this behavior over attacking monsters.
