so i was thinking what if we could craft a map.... your probably thinking a mini map but thats not what im thinking.
it would be crafted by using stiff paper (so it takes a while to get) wich i dont know a hard way to earn it but maybe a stack of 64 paper? well you make those and fill up the crafting grid, wich would make a map (it would be blank).
now you need a pencil, it could maybe me made of lead? a new mineral thats rare? or coal... then you need 1 more thing, a workplace. it could be made with a crafting bench with some iron? well then you are ready.
place the workplace you made on the ground and open it up. put a map and a pencil into the 2 slots and it will draw out tiles arround you. could be 3x3 so you can map out the whole world.
so now when your holding it, you hold it in 2 hands and its in the lower middle of your screen and you can see it. this would only allow a small portion of the map but if you right click with it in your hands you can see a fullscreen view.
this would make it feel more like an adventure/survival!
tell me what you think

To be honest, it sounds like it essentially does the same thing as a mini-map would anyway?
And I haven't installed that mod, because I believe it would make the game too easy. Getting lost is part of the game, and finding ways to avoid getting lost (beacons, for example) is part of the game as well. That's just my opinion.
Ah, you're saying that you need to manually "draw" the map every three metres? That sounds like it's a bit underpowered then! ;-) I'm not convinced, but I'm not completely against it either now that I have a better understanding of what you want.
well when you put the map and pencil in it generates 3 tiles arround you.... MAYBE!!!! ok uhm maybe..... we can also have a map we can actually draw on and hang it up (only in SSP to avoid abuse...)

I like the idea of actually having to physically draw your own map! But I also like getting lost in my little minecraft world.. hmm. Maybe the maps could be hung up as decoration as well? ^^
You may find what you're looking for with my Expanded Inventory mapping method. It requires you to carry the map in your offhand in order to mark the map as you go, and it will only mark where you've been. So you still have to explore new areas on your own, but you can reference the map to get back and forth. It still has the limitations of a 2D map trying to represent a 3D world though so you may need to create multiple maps in order to mark multiple levels, and carefully dequip the map to keep it from overwriting other levels that you want to keep marked.
Oh, yeah, and it also requires ink to be in your inventory to work properly.

i said that already in my post beneath it :tongue.gif:
