Okay first of all I know the game has Ghasts but my sugestion is different and perhaps they could be like baby ghasts. The Ghosts would look either like small Ghasts or a floating white slime. Maybe they could look like the ghosts from Pac Man as a little joke/cameo.
The Ghosts abilities should be unique. They simply float around until a player comes close enough to be noticed by it. When the Ghost starts to chase it will be able to go through blocks and be immune to all damage. Any block a Ghost goes through will become transparent and allow you to walk through it. If a Ghost catches you, you will become transparent yourself and will not be able to use items or place/destroy blocks. The only way a ghost can be killed is if it encounters light. Light from a torch or from the sun will make it as physical as other monsters and will die with one hit from the weakest weapon or fist. Light also makes it lose its ability to float, move, and turn things ghostlike, really light will just turn it into a harmless mob.
Note: It would be awesome if the ghosts could fly/ follow you through air. All objects attatched to the affected blocks turn ghostlike aswell (like ladders or signs)
Ghosts should only spawn in/near the entrences to underground caves or constructs and around player or neutral mob corpses (aka pigs or sheep) during night time in the dark.
Iron Fences
Sometimes regular wooden fences both clash with a look or don't get the job done. This is when Iron fences will come in. Made out of Iron ignots in the same pattern as fences they will be sharp enough to hurt anything that touches it by half a hart and will be coloured dark grey. Oh and while your at it could you make it so we can place fences ontop of one another to make bars and cages?
Iron fence yes. not like wood but like conduit fences (chain fences) should be better cuz they actually are used a lot. also no damage should be dealt. fences are for looks and making boundaries.
Iron fences sound awesome,I'm not so YAY LET'S DO THIS on the idea for ghosts.Don't we ALREADY have enough creepy, evil stuff in Minecraft?Geez,we don't need more. is my best friend.

MineCarts Mk. II
Golden Fleece
Wall Clocks
Fireworks
You can already place fences on top of eachother....
Yes but only by exploiting the mechanics/physics. Plus the current way is a pain in the ass don't you think?
