I love Minecraft! I commend Notch for putting up with all the criticism that comes along with a paid open-beta. I have only a few suggestions, that may be polished features that can wait until the release, but would greatly improve the Minecrafter experience. PLEASE BUMP THIS TOPIC.
First off, less clicking! Shift + left clicking
1) With your inventory open it would equip armor in the proper slot, and put all other items in the next open hot bar slot.
2) With a chest or furnace open it would put the items into your inventory, or vice-versa.
3) When crafting, it does the most allowed due to stack size or resources available. (Example, having 16 sticks and 16 coal in the crafting slot, then shift clicking the torch creates the entire 64 stack with one Shift + left click.)
Secondly, some sort of ambient player light function. holding a torch surrounds the player with light
I know there are mods for these, so these are not my original ideas. I suggest a torch, but honestly it could be an entirely different crafted item such as a lantern, or mining helmet. In my opinion it should be a held item so you have to swap to a weapon if you encounter a monster.
shift-clicking is coming in a later update :smile.gif:
torches that surround the player.. huh.. don't know if Notch considered this idea or not
what I'd like to see in minecraft :
better ambience sounds. I'd like to hear white noise when I'm approaching a waterfall. I'd like to hear water dripping with echo in a cavern, wind in the trees, crickets on sunrise, waves on the beach, water knocking on wood when on a boat. I think this would add so freakin' much fun to the game. :smile.gif:
and also I'd like to see weather, but that's a little harder to do ^^
I'll agree with shift clicking. It'd be useful for those times where I'd want only a certain amount of mats but I don't want to carry the whole stack.
As for the torches, either it was implemented but it wouldn't work right and was subsequently removed or it won't be implemented until the engine is upgraded because it doesn't have enough power to do this.

Check out Convenient Inventory. It adds that really thoroughly. I can't live without it now lol. Really hope Notch will implement something like that.
I don't find the suggestion a use of common-sense. It might save some time, but really nothing we can't live without.
I don't think the fact that a torch gives off no light in your hand but light right as you place it makes sense, but I suppose you could argue that punching a tree til you can craft a workbench doesn't either.
I do though believe that it would be common sense to add these sorts of user-friendly things that could drastically improve the players' experience. On the same note, saying that its common sense does not imply that it's something I cannot, in fact, live without. As I currently do.
