I am not 100% solid on the applications related to the telescope; then again your suggestion is not related directly to telescopes, but just of astronomy.
Perhaps add in zodiac effects; like looking at the minecraft sky will allow you to believe in the Minecraft zodiac. You can only use one buff at a time.
You can view each zodiac at different parts of the day. Looking at the watch tells you when you can view it.
Midnight - Moon is centered on watch
Sunrise - Horizontal line is centered on watch |
Midday - Sun is centered on watch
Sunset - Horizontal line is centered on watch |
The different constellations are:
1) The sheep - Viewable between mid-day and midnight - until sunrise, sheep drop +1 wool
2) The pig - Viewable between sunrise and sunset - until sunrise, pigs drop +1 porkchop
3) The cow - Viewable between mid-day and midnight - until sunrise, cows drop +1 leather
4) The dog - not implemented yet.
5) The chicken - Viewable all day - until sunrise, attacking a chicken gives an egg. Only 1 egg per chicken.
6) The creeper - Viewable between midnight and sunrise - until sunrise, creepers drop +1 sulfur
7) The skeleton - Viewable between sunset and sunrise - until sunrise, skeletons drop +1 bone
8) The spider - Viewable between sunrise and midnight - until sunrise, spiders drop +1 string
9) The slime - Viewable between sunrise and sunset - until sunrise, slimes drop +1 slime ball
10) The zombie - Viewable between sunset and midnight - until sunrise, zombies drop +1 feather
11) The pigman - Viewable between sunset and sunrise - until sunrise, zombie pigman drops +1 cooked porkchop
12) The ghast - Viewable between sunset and midnight - until sunrise, ghasts drop +1 gunpowder

You guys have been arguing over whether or not the minecraft telescopes should use diamond. May I point out that telescopes in real life don't even use diamond, but use carefully crafted lenses (some use mirrors, some don't)!
The type of telescope yall are planning on having is called a Refractor telescope (No mirrors)
Here is a diagram of two types of telescopes: http://web.williams.edu/astronomy/Cours ... refrac.jpg

I am talking about a 1500 year era Telescope.
Modern is not what we look for in Minecraft, ok?
They may have been DECORATED with diamond, but I seriously doubt they ever used diamond as a functioning part for OBSERVING the skies. Galileo, the first person to use telescopes for astronomy, made his out of glass lenses. He lived in the 1500s. They have used glass ever since then.
Where are you getting your information from?
(they MIGHT have used diamonds to SHAPE the glass lenses that they put into the telescope.)

Im talking about the time Nostradamus was born, to his death, which was I think a year before Galileo was born.
Nostradamus: Born in 1504-French
Galileo: Born in 1564-Italian
Not everyone is alike.
I thought this idea might have potential but then the poster has an attitude problem - not accepting any criticism and what not, so its lost my support. Also, apart from aesthetics what other purpose would it serve? Just making torches after wasting a diamond seems worthless.
No, I loose patience after someone doesnt bother to read it then argues about what the title should be.
I have patience with the people who work with me, you see?
And, im still expanding.
If im still on here, which I probally will, it will expand until the beginning of 2012, heaving greater detail.
I like the ideas of looking into the sky with a telescope but i think if bosses were added then it could be used for that such as a nearby boss will have a constellation or planet of where they are but yea there could be things that tell you to do somthing on a certain day and somthing will happen Example: You look at the night sky and notice a word in the stars oit say "plant five wheat in a line and it will appear" you go do that and somthing special or just plainly weird .happens this would also give you somthing to do if you are waiting for 250 cobblestone to turn into smooth stone so you can finally finish your town you have been working on or somthing like that
I like where your going with this, but I dont want it to be a priority yet.

Its kind of like walking to the Grocery store to find a giant Sheep threw a meteor at it.
You cant read a thread that fast.
You fail.
I'm sorry

Where's the none above vote?
A none above vote would mean you like all of them.
Tis a shame you cant learn.
Yea.. no.
Actually, it would.
It would mean you cant choose a favorite, because you like all of them.
Get out.
