My idea is pretty much a more level idea of the so to be Minecraft era, (Because modern is not in it, or future.)
Its pretty much a way to study the stars and stuff in space, not going in to space.
Ideas:
Telescope
Stars
Novas
SuperNovas
Starlight torches
Planets
Disasters
Debris from Planets (See "Disasters")
Constellations
Telescope:
Has a larger view than your eyes can see.
*Note: Only gold telescopes can see Stars and Supernovas.
Iron will only see Novas.
Crafting:
Wooden Telescope
Wooden telescopes can only see farther. Not Novas or Supernovas.
Iron Telescope:
Can see Novas. Not Supernovas.
Gold Telescope: Gold Telescopes can see farther, see Novas, and see Supernovas.
Stars
A great array of colors that can only be seen using a telescope. Wooden telescopes however, cannot.
This section is brief, and will be stated later in Novas and SuperNovas.
Stars, if you use your iron/gold telescope, you can see.
They are of a changing burning texture. Do not move through sky, as it has a light on it. Notch cannot program moving light.
Novas
If you look through your iron/gold telescope, you can see a Nova happening in the sky, though its a 1/75 chance.
They are stars that light up and expand, but dont blow.
This is also brief.
SuperNovas
Only gold telescopes can see Supernovas.
Supernovas happen if a star becomes a Nova, it has a 1/150th chance of becoming a Supernova.
Supernovas are stars that get brighter in color then explode.
When Supernovas explode, 1-7 blocks of Star blocks randomly drop near the explosion, albeit in your Chunk.
Star blocks drop 9 star dust, which can be crafted into the Star block, or Starlight torches.
Starlight Torches.
Star dust can be crafted into Starlight Torches, which light up to a level 13/14 (14 is maximum light, I believe.)
Planets
Viewing planets will be like Star Gazing, unless, well....Lets see whats up next, shall we?
Disasters
Not what you expect, as in direct Earth disasters,
But every 26 Minecraft days(26,000 is way too far....) the Sun has a 1/75th chance of rising with the Milkyway, causing some weird things to happen where you are. Ice will melt in the chunks around you, causing the sea level to rise by one.(Not needed, but can be added.) Tsunamis/Floods. Note* Next disaster will take some time.
Debris from other planets will rain down onto Earth, after.....say, 100 Minecraft days?
This will cause some major effects that people have been waiting for, but not for no apparent reason. Note* This can be toggled on or off.
Planet debris
As said, this can be toggled on and off along with "Disasters".
Planet debris rains down from planets after 100 or so Minecraft days. Dependant from what planet it is, it can be radiant metal, rock, or ice. Perhaps even ice crystals you see in Saturns rings.
Constellations

Perhaps add in zodiac effects; like looking at the minecraft sky will allow you to believe in the Minecraft zodiac. You can only use one buff at a time.
You can view each zodiac at different parts of the day. Looking at the watch tells you when you can view it.
Midnight - Moon is centered on watch
Sunrise - Horizontal line is centered on watch |
Midday - Sun is centered on watch
Sunset - Horizontal line is centered on watch |
The different constellations are:
1) The sheep - Viewable between mid-day and midnight - until sunrise, sheep drop +1 wool
2) The pig - Viewable between sunrise and sunset - until sunrise, pigs drop +1 porkchop
3) The cow - Viewable between mid-day and midnight - until sunrise, cows drop +1 leather
4) The dog - not implemented yet.
5) The chicken - Viewable all day - until sunrise, attacking a chicken gives an egg. Only 1 egg per chicken.
6) The creeper - Viewable between midnight and sunrise - until sunrise, creepers drop +1 sulfur
7) The skeleton - Viewable between sunset and sunrise - until sunrise, skeletons drop +1 bone
8) The spider - Viewable between sunrise and midnight - until sunrise, spiders drop +1 string
9) The slime - Viewable between sunrise and sunset - until sunrise, slimes drop +1 slime ball
10) The zombie - Viewable between sunset and midnight - until sunrise, zombies drop +1 feather
11) The pigman - Viewable between sunset and sunrise - until sunrise, zombie pigman drops +1 cooked porkchop
12) The ghast - Viewable between sunset and midnight - until sunrise, ghasts drop +1 gunpowder
The idea sounds a bit pointless and probably a waste of diamond. Though the use of a spy glass doesn't sound half-bad.
As far as I know, Telescopes use Diamond to power Telescopes.
What I meant by "a waste of diamond" was that you'd be using diamonds for an item that would be utterly useless.
Then every diamond tool would be useless, too.
I mean, all you need to do to get a "Diamond" pick axe, you just need to get 4-6 stone pick axes, and stone is as easy to find as dirt.
Then every diamond tool would be useless, too.

All I'm saying is that a telescope to look at things in the sky is pointless in itself compared using your diamonds for an item that can actually do you some good. I'm not saying diamonds are worthless, i'm saying the exact opposite.

You dont have to look at the sky.
You can spot enemies from far away, or scout for that Creeper that you lost view of.
but nostrodamuscraft, maybe galileocraft? He's more known for astronamy than nostrodamus
Ive never heard of him.
And trust me, I know a LOT of astronamy.
NostradamusCraft seems fine to me.
Are you serious? You claim to know 'a LOT of astronamy', and yet you've never heard of Galileo, who's 'been called the "father of modern observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", the "father of science", and "the Father of Modern Science"'?
On topic: spyglasses, yes; space telescopes, not really feeling it.
You know, I stick to one person of astronomy, and really never move to another.
I have indeed actually heard of him, what I was trying to say is I dont study his claims.
Why not space telescopes?
Regarding your claim about astronomy, I believe you actually do not know much about astronomy, beyond the basics. My reason to make such a bold claim, is you have never heard of Galileo, but more importantly, in a sort of paradox, when someone knows more about something, they realise how much they actually don't know, as opposed to amateurs, who believe they are experts. I hypothesize you are either not professional or knowledgeable on the subject, or you are boastful and immodest.

Disregarding my actual stupidity of Galileo, I want you to tell your opinion of my thread.
God, its like people find atiny mistake in words and decide to abandon the idea of the topic.

Yea, my ideas usually come out good when I actually have more than 5 sentences in them...
And yes, I was thinking on the line ofan expansion pack.
What I meant by "a waste of diamond" was that you'd be using diamonds for an item that would be utterly useless.

"Magic" is an invalid word to me.
Think of something else.
Ok, really, Nostradamus is my main choice, and does it really matter of the title?
All I'm saying is that a telescope to look at things in the sky is pointless in itself compared using your diamonds for an item that can actually do you some good. I'm not saying diamonds are worthless, i'm saying the exact opposite.

It would be more usefull in SMP
OH!
It could blind the player if appointed at the sun

Why not space telescopes?
I was thinking in my mind for a long time before posting this, because I thought of that but forgot it.
Disregarding my actual stupidity of Galileo, I want you to tell your opinion of my thread.
God, its like people find atiny mistake in words and decide to abandon the idea of the topic.
Now a spy-glass I could get behind.
