I think that adding a certain way to change the color of Armors that are not leather should be implemented so that the wearer can express themselves like they can with leather Armor. It just makes more sense as well to have the other Armors to be dyed somehow and just have leather be the only dyed Armor. How this could be done is with Dyes as usual, but could take up more Dye to do so than normal depending on how strong the Armor is (Iron uses 2 Dyes, while Diamond could use 3 for example).
I don't think this is a good idea. Each armor has it's own plus and minus. Leather can be dyed, but it's weak. Iron is good for middle-game armor (and it's renewable). Gold are easy to enchant, but they has low durability, Diamond is end-game item, but it's worth the try.
