Here is my idea And it is repairing items like that Diamond pick we all hate to lose so much and other expensive items
OK i will start with the recipes for the items
[] []
this would be an anvil to repair things on and would have a menu similar to the forge or work bench
It would work as the surface to use the next item
[] []
[] []
this item would be a repair hammer (which in its self would have a health bar)
OK here is how the repairing might work. Say you have the tool/item right here in the top left blank spot
[] (or the type of material that it is made out of)
[] []
there might be a process where you either hit the item when on the anvil(which might make more sense)
or where you put the hammer in one of the four slots(underneath the diamond or the tool)
P.S.Sorry if i was not clear enough with this or if my idea is flawed this is my first idea topic
also please tell me what i can do to make this a better idea(constructive criticizem) ALSO i apologize if this has already shown up in several other topics
Tools are expendable and not meant to be repaired. You can't make it restore more then the initial cost of a material. Sword = 50% Axe/pick = 33.33%. If you make it restore less then why not just save the material and craft a new one. It also becomes less cost effective if you add in the durability of another tool to do the repair. I can see it being useful for swords and armor because you do not want your sword to break mid battle and you always want your armor to be as durable as possible, but might not have the necessary materials to just craft more. I just stashed my battle torn diamond sword in a chest once it started getting low and traded it for a new one, but an option to repair might be nice.
So as long as the material in (is not greater than) the % amount repaired...
...I'd support this anyway just for the added anvil to add to my blacksmith shop.

thanks:D OK and BTW sven it would not take more then one of the material and it would completely repair it
For instance" OH CRUD MY DIAMOND PICK IS ALMOST OUT AND I DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE ANOTHER ONE"
"At least i have my handy dandy smithing station Where i can use one of my diamonds to completely repair it YAY!!!"
P.S. and yes i made that as cheesy as possible lol

That's what I was saying to avoid. That makes it over powered. "oh crud my diamond chest plate is about to break" *slaps on one more diamond* TADA 100% armor
Helm + / = 20% durability back
Chest plate + / = 12.5% durability back
Leggings + / = 14.28% durability back
Boots + / = 25% durability back
Sword + / = 50% durability back
Maybe you could even get a small extra percentage back because you are using another tool to do so but a full repair isn't really feasible
