I tired of all these suggestions that are so linier and needlessly complicated. ex: first in order to build a biplane you have craft the wings, then the propeller, then the body, then the engine. and it comes out to the exact same thing always.
Well with this suggestion there is none of that sillyness. With this idea there will only be 2 blocks added (4 if you count the variants to the engine block, which i will describle lower down)
So the way it would work is. is that you have engine blocks, and mechanism blocks
= redstone
engine=
There are 3 engine variants. putting this recipe at the top of the grid will make an air engine, putting it at the middle will make a ground engine, putting it at the bottom will make a sea engine.
air engine= is used to push all mechanism blocks attached to the engine in the direction aimed by the player, controls are w=move up s= move down a= move left d= move right move straignt= a+d you stop by not pressing anything
ground engine= same as air variant except w=move forward s=move backward
sea engine= same as ground except works on water and lava blocks
mechanism blocks im not 100% on how to craft so suggestions would be nice.
now mechanism blocks would work by "attaching" to the engine block and moving with it so if the player presses the button to go down, all mechanism blocks attached to the engine block will move down with it. When placed by another mechanism block, the mech block will check to see if any mech blocks next to it are "attached" to teh engine and if so they become "attached" themselves. This makes it so that you can build literally any vehicle you want and have it move, so long as there is an engine block attached. If the moving mech blocks come into contact with a full block they will stop (with half blocks they will climb, so you need proper roads for ground travel and cant just drive through the jungle with your tank screaming " LEROY JENKINS!")
"Well how do i pilot the darn thing?" you may ask. simple, you simply right click the engine with the empty hand and you will be able to pilot it. clicking the engine with a fuel source will start it up and consume the fuel source. the time the fuel lasts is equvalent to the amount of time it burns in a furnace.
Also if a regular block does not come into contact with anything besides air and mech blocks, then it itself will act as a mech block (so you can transport cargo and the like)
One last mechanic , and if your still reading im impressed. If to mech blocks meet up and are attached to two diffrent engines, if the engines are fo the same variant they will increase the speed of the veicle by 1.5.
so any comments, criticisms? post about it.
tl;dr there are blocks that move with the engines blocks which they themselves move
