So I was making a resource pack and I realized, “diamonds are super unrealistic. Real diamonds aren’t sea green, they’re crystal and transparent.” Now, as you can’t add transparency into resource packs, but you can change colors. I think it would be nice to make diamonds kind of blueish-white. I can upload a picture of what I mean later if you’d like.
The realism doesn't matter in this case. The item is clear enough to where people can identify it as a diamond.
Plus, the texture is so iconic that it doesn't make much sense to change it. Mojang decided to change all* of the textures, so I guess this isn't too unreasonable.

Made a video about it. You can see what I’m taking about in the video
I think that the light blue style of diamonds suits the style of Minecraft, and realism doesn't seem to be something on the checklist of those who work there. However, I do like the idea!
That would ruin the fun out of finding nice, light blue ore underground to be replaced with white, ugly ore that doesn't even go well with the stone texture. And white diamonds make me think somebody spilled bleach on them.
I personally prefer the old texture... but maybe its just my biases. Light blue is my favorite color after all.

Diamonds irl are that color (basically). Really, before they’re cut, they’re gray. Would you like to have gray diamonds?
If you want diamonds that look realistic, use a resource pack. But the huge majority of the playerbase is going to appreciate the light blue (not green or sea green...) more than something that looks like a silver play button. The whole reason we play MC is because it bends reality's rules for the sake of fun.

I always felt weird about the color of the minecraft diamonds. It's not only about realism but also aestheticism. Minecraft is one of those indie games wich haven't been used at their full potential, and diamonds are a great example of that. In addition of making them a lighter blue, they should add transparency and even light reflection.
This is a bit off-topic so I'll create a new tread if you want to talk about that : there are other items that could be improved via transparency (diamonds, liquids, magma cream and end eyes) and dynamic lightning (especially for metals).

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t do that, as it would lower peoples FPS a lot. But like a setting to toggle it might be good
Diamonds as they are in their vanilla form are so popular that changing them wouldn't make too much sense, but then again Mojang is redoing almost every texture in the game so there's that. I personally don't mind the color of diamonds in game. There's a surge of excitement in finding the ores and a sense of power in owning those shiny blue tools and armor.

Diamonds can appear as clear like what you are saying, AND blue, orange, green, yellow, red, etc. Blue diamonds are just what mojang chose. I see no reason to change this unless to add every color of diamond into the game.

Check out my suggestions! Here is one of them:
They are mineceaft diamonds. Ever seen a real diamond large enough to make a shovel?
diamonds cant just become transparent, because who holds a stick with a blue, glassy looking tip?
plus i think either optifine or mcpatcher allows transparent textures
Made a video about it. You can see what I’m taking about in the video
And also, @scorrp10 , You can fuse diamonds and other minerals together irl
It looks just like iron.

DIAMONDS IN MINECRAFT ARE NOT GREEN
they are light blue get a new monitor
They’re a sea green.
If you look at it close enough you’ll se it has a very light blue tint
Please, no.

I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...

Precisely. I don't want to have to look "close enough" to distinguish an iron pick from a diamond one.
ima add to this
the color is fine the actual shape of the item should be changed a little bit
like this, but with the current color
add me on xbox one Oreo Volcano to play minecraft, fortnite, call of duty or whatever i need new friends
Ok, I might try that. Thank you for the suggestion I
I do use a resource pack. I made one.
