Like banners, we could place a plain colored bed in the crafting table and place colors around it to create patterns on the blanket
Or we could use a bed and a custom banner put together
I wanted to suggest this for so long
What if we could make flour? Put wheat in the crafting table to craft some flour, then mix is with water in a caldroun to make bread dough, and then cook it in a furnace to get bread loaf. You could place bread loaf like a block and slice it with shears to gett bread slices, and then put meat and veggies between bread slices to make a sandwich.
Flour could also be used for cakes instead of wheat.
Last suggestion is colored torches and fires. This is ispired by the chemical reaction in the Flame Test, were a flame changes color if it is a certain metal tu burn (like Cooper producesse a green flame, sodium a yellow one etc)
We could craft torches with color in them. With firea, we will have to drop the color in the flames to get the effect.
Allowing beds to display a custom pattern as do banners is an interesting idea; the downside I can see is that the patterns on banners are more computationally expensive than the simple bed colors.
That said… beds tend to be a fairly rare item (not more than one per camp/base in my case) so this may be unimportant.
As I expect this to be locked [wishlist as Govthefox noted], the patterned bed idea should be reposted in ots own thread.
As an idea for inclusion in a KitchenCraft mod [don't no whether the name is in use, no endorsement is intended or should be inferred], this may have some merit (and it does add another use for cauldrons)…
…as an addition to vanilla… no; aside from the usual issues with more food items, this adds far to much complexity to what is intended to be an early-game/entry level food [bread].
Variations on this have been proposed repeatedly, but founder on the shoals of the lighting engine.
Given the crying need to rewrite the lighting engine to fix its variou glitch modes, it might be worth exploring what would be needed to add such effects… although getting the basic engine to work consistently and reliably clearly takes precendence.
