Lightning should strike water 20% more often then land. When lightning strikes water, all mobs in a 30 x 30 x 30 radius should instantly die (including items and boats), fish should become cooked, there should be a 42% chance that lighting strikes that same area again (so the player can not farm this too often),when lighting strikes water, there should be a chain effect with the lightning when it kills the mobs, also a sarcastic achievement/advancement when you die from one lighting strike and lose your items to the second lighting strike, and there should be a potion of lighting resistance or a potion ingredient associated with the lightning. (Do not include lighting from the trident [to prevent farming].)
1 lighting, a Gigawatt of energy capable of making water on 1 kiloliters (one cube) warm up 0.2 degree. Anything over there will obviously die. The energy spreads at one meter you will have 7.9 Kilowatts of energy / square centimeter, (assuming the conductivity is perfect) ... at 4 meters radius you will have 497 watts of energy / square centimeter still lethal, at 10 meters 79 watts / square centimeter. This assuming the water just lets all the energy pass. Water can conduce electric energy but it is a really bad conductor so maybe 20 liters of water will boil and in a radius of 3 meters anything will die (because of electric shock).
Sooo ... 30 x 30 x 30 ... did you call Thor?
Lightnings are more likely to strike the highest point on the land than the sea. They also go if possible to a conductor (metals, why? this materials contain an excess of electrons, making them good to electric energy flow. When lightning strikes a metal, the metal also produces some kind of lighting that goes straight to meet their mates) Air is better conductor btw since ions carry the electric energy and they are free to move. Any lightning falling straight on you will evaporate you (since ions will just destroy all your organism making it no longer working)[assuming a super lighting of 1 gigawatt hits you] since you are 60% water and maybe have 40 liters of it on your body you will heat up 6 degrees (assuming all energy is spread identically on your body [real life your brain evaporates since it hits the highest part of your body]) making your blood stop flowing because of it stops being liquid. Yes lighting should really be 1 hit kill I agree
Support you on the idea of lighting hitting a same spot more provably then other, probably because of the planets magnetic field. The rest, you really need to look on physics...
Sorry for explaining all this but I wanted to spend my time, if anyone tries to correct me Ik I don't know a lot since I'm a kid
Dang, science bomb dropped. Ok then 3 X 3, but you know minecraft is already unrealistic. But I suppose 4J studios is making the newer updates a little more realistic now
I think an unavoidable hazard that instantly kills you without any warning other than knowing theres a possibility of it because of there being a storm is just ridiculous. Lightning happens fairly often during a storm, and this would just be awful. Imagine if a person is crossing their river with their dogs and then boom, they're all dead! Heck this might even accidentally kill some Elder Guardians in their monuments without any player interaction at all. There's just so much wrong with this and no real purpose for it being added.
Ooooohh! I got another Idea. What about a drowned variant of the skeleton? It will not have a bow, it will be weaker and it will be faster than a normal skeleton. Maybe a large angler fish? Or a swamp fish or snapping turtle. Feel free submit your own ideas for update aquatic!
Please limit the thread to a single suggestion, or group of closely-related suggestions. A variant of a mob isn't closely-related enough to the lightning strike idea to be allowed.

true. so then guardians may be resistant to lightning or even charged. and the rarity of player lightning strikes in the ocean should be 1:10000.
purpose: to add that extra spice to thunderstorms.

I like what you stand for.

This would make the trident enchantment that causes lighting,[Channeling I think] pretty over powered. tho man that would be fun!
