An automated world/player save with configurable timer that creates a new saved-folder with each save. Therefore when your linux server crashes, it doesn't corrupt the current auto saving server map files =/
It would eat a lot of disk space, but that is what server computers are designed for. And those servers with unbelievably massive worlds, should downsize their map if they don't have the space :wink.gif: It is a "server computer", should have 500gb+ hd, with an OS and Minecraft/plugins installed, nothing else!
There are like 80 bazillion mods that make automatic backups... And/or your host if you are outsourcing usually can do this... Or you can do it yourself with tons of third party software, too.
Minecraft itself really has nothing to do with backing up the files - that is going to be done by a program running separately in your OS that doesn't need to communicate with actual minecraft proper (it might happen to be part of the same mod, but doesn't have to be).

Przerwap, upon looking at some code I had just written: "...Gav... That's not how programming works."
First time using Linux, which is on the hosting box. Still learning =) any help would be greatly appreciated to make a backup world/player folder every couple hours (with time stamped folder names or something). I recently had a server crash that corrupted the map files (although i have an auto-save plugin). It somehow changed the location of the chunks, and when I searched up solutions online, it seems the only thing that has caused that in the past was converting maps from 1.2-1.3 however my map has always been 1.3 :ohmy.gif: anyways, had to rollback to the last manual save which was the day before =( im manually making backups a lot more frequent now, but i have to sleep sometime heh.

Like the one below.
