I actually really like the weight idea. It makes sense and if you think about it, 20% slower isn't that much.
You'd be surprised. It's actually quite significant. You will no longer be able to make certain jumps (4 block, maybe even 3 block jumps). You will be somewhat easier to hit. You will find it somewhat harder to flee. You will take longer to reach destinations and waste more hunger on the way.

Yes. And especially Leather with no protection and less practical then Gold and Chain.
Well, ah, about that last part...
Leather armor is used as the most basic, cheapest kind. It is the first kind people wear. Even if all you have is fists, you can eventually punch enough cows to get yourself some armor. While it isn't the best, it's certainly better than nothing. It's actually pretty rare for players to use it as first armor. Most players just go strait for getting ready to make a bed before they start mining for ores to make better armor. I think it's only ever been used as first armor when found in chests before finding any other types. The material for leather armor are better spent used for enchanted books to enchant better armor.
(just incase you didn't notice, I actually forgot to add the word "basically" before the "no")
To be honest, I'm actually scared to know I "changed" someones mind. (0_0) That actually doesn't happen very often. But I'm glad we do agree on this though.
Yeah, I try my best to keep my mind open (sorry if these verbs/adjectives are giving you a headache ;]). Persuading someone without being open to persuasion yourself is a futile act (in my opinion, of course). I actually completely agree. I'm actually just not use to knowing their are others like me with the ability to understand the necessity.
Agreed. What about if it was just that biomes like Deserts and Red Sahara that vines would stay the same but break if you try to swing (jump) from them and would have a withered texture, hanging vines solely attached to Birch and Spruce Trees leave would do the same & whenever you wear full gold armor, and after eating you just can't use hanging vines?
I agree with the biome-specific vine mechanics. Not sure why you chose Birch and Spruce trees specifically. Don't think that armor and food intake should affect this, even if it might be slightly more realistic, and especially not if armor weight isn't added. It's mostly to fit the thread itself. I chose Birch as one of the trees because of it's lower tolerance out of the other tree types. Considering the added weight of the vines, how little vines could survive off of Birch trees, and the climate they grow in, I really don't think they would hold the weight of the average person, led alone an overweight blockhead like Bob... Steve and Alex.
Yes. I actually wanted to make sticks better then nothing due to it actually being better then nothing in real life. I decided to use the stick in spastic due to it actually being used as a defense weapon in real life as a Bow Staff. In reality it's not the best weapon and doesn't cause the most damage, but it's usually only used for emergencies when you have nothing else better. Most people seem to underestimate it though as a weapon at all though, which for the purpose of the game I think it'd actually be a good thing.
What do you mean by "use the stick in spastic"? I thought that bolded word was a typo the first time (any luck on those glasses?). Sorry. By "sticks in spastic" I meant out of swords and sticks, the reasoning given was about why sticks.
We definitely agree that gold as it is bad armor that it should still have something better to offer then diamond in certain arias without being better armor and that Diamonds should be the best armor type in the game. So diamond armor should most definitely still be the best armor and most obviously even better then no armor. Now, do we also agree that Iron and Chain should still be better armor then Gold, worse then Diamond, and Chain better then Iron at least 50-50 in their own arias?
Iron and Chain should be better than Gold and worse than Diamond, yes.
Do you mean that Chain and Iron would be somewhat equal overall but different in specifics? I'm thinking that Iron could still have more "defense points", but Chain could have some unique ability because of its rareness. What do you think? Well, I know that Chain came first for the purpose of making it almost impossible for bladed weapons like swords and axes to cut the knights. The opposition could not just go for the neck. Their best bet would be to strike through the eye slits of the helmet or look for a wide opening that would allow them to use all of their might to cut through their armor. The thing about having to use a power strike is that if they fail to commit or just don't get the strike right, they would be too tired to go back to an offensive position and wide open for a power attack and at the mercy of the opposition. Swervey daggers and longer bladed spears would ended up being used to combat the Chain-meal armor my going in-between the chain to stab the opposition.
FUN FACT:
Around this time, capes, garment, and other cloths with family crests where used to be able to tell each other apart while they wear their armors sense they could also barely see or hear each other through their helmets that muffed their own voices.
To combat the dangers and spears, blacksmiths ended up using steal and iron to add layered plates of armor (Iron armor) to go over the chain-meal armor. The plates where layered in a way that would make it impossible to stab though with any bladed weapons (From swords and battle axes to dangers and spears). But the added plating would also add weight and make it harder to move. to combat the amount of weight and lack of movement and agility, the fully armored knights would use armored horses and elephants along with better ranged weapons like Long Swords, Lances, and Spears during combat on the battlefield. The knights who road the elephants would have to use Lances and Spears to be able to reach the opposition (Including crawlers). Other weapons like War Hammers and Maces would end up being used to combat the iron armor.
FUN FACT:
Canons where always a threat and bows & arrows also still continued to be used for proper castle defenses throughout these wars.
The knights' code of honer did help them defend themselves and their teammates better, but it stopped being used along with the heavy armor not long after guns became the primary weapons.
I'm not obsessed with combat. I just really like this subject.. (=|=) (o_o)
I was actually talking about the gold weapons (he axe and swords of the gold variants). Pickaxes and shovels are already faster tools. Those 2 are actually specifically for players who are in a hurry (Usually making several to make up for horrible density) to break blocks faster. Bur the weapons are still, for the most part, pointless in-game items.
Ah. I still think that gold weapons are inferior overall, because it only has slightly faster mining speed for certain blocks, but much slower speed for other blocks, added onto, of course, the lack of durability.
Faster weapons could work. It'd work side-by-side with the bad durability - you'd deal a lot of damage very fast until your weapon broke (which would also be very fast). Though now I'm wondering if double the attack speed might be a little overpowered in PvP... I think because of that that, gold weapons would have to be make to break after dealing the same amount of damage that stone swords would deal by the time that they break.
It's actually just to swim out faster (Mostly just for Divers). It's not something people would want to carry around unless they actually deed it. It would be more considerable instead of pointless though, despite it still not being better then gold.
Upcoming swimming feature does this: "When sprinting while swimming, the player will now go much faster than normal swimming, and rapidly dive down to the lowest point in the body of water."
Don't really need the new leather armor anymore. Sorry. I meant gold would help you swim "Down" faster and "Up" slower then you would normally, and leather having the opposite effect. I'm am aware of the new swimming though.
I actually don't expect the devision to not cause problems throughout the snapshots, but it's the only other possible to implement crawling from what I could think off without having to rotate the hit-box. The developers actually already planed to have it implemented VMC. I don't think any one map would be made for every update, especially after 1.9. and the upcoming 1.13., but I think, due to how commands are being changed, that they could be used to disable these kind of stuff. servers shouldn't be affecter at all until they're rebooted, but it would still be more worth it just to use mods for the purpose of their servers' worlds.
Well, to be honest, I actually only have problems with crawling in custom maps and servers. In vanilla MC, crawling seems like a fine addition. If crawling can be disabled with commands, I'd be fine with adding it in-game. By the way, I was meaning to ask you: do you have a link to the devs' comments on scrapped crawling? I tried looking but couldn't find it with what I searched. I think you should be able to find it on Redit, Twitter, or an old Minecon video. I actually found my information from youtube videos. They usually talk about it on videos discussing witch direction the developers are most likely to take with the game, sometimes even in snapshot videos.
I actually love to read your replies. Please don't withhold any judgment that could help me improve on the thread. I need all the information I can get.
Aw, thanks.
I think the thread is fine, of course apart from the small typos here and there. I actually like that you take time to respond to what I say.
Although, can I ask you one question? What's that 45/55% controversy you brought up in the OP about? No. You would not have my permission to ask a question! JK. I actually DO remember the specific site for those stats. The developers posted some polls to know what people think. I think their where only 2 though

Alright. I actually use leather armor sometimes, but you're right that it's a low priority.
Still not sure how to make it more useful, though. A simple way would be to make it provide more defense points, as right now it provides 7 (full set), while all other full sets provide at least 10.
I actually completely agree. I'm actually just not use to knowing their are others like me with the ability to understand the necessity.
Yeah, I personally find it strange how some people come to forums purely to argue with others without changing their own mind.

Don't think that realism is necessary, especially since many players wouldn't know about that fact. I thought all vines wouldn't be able to hold a person's weight until you came.
Sorry. By "sticks in spastic" I meant out of swords and sticks, the reasoning given was about why sticks.
What exactly does that entail?

I've done a little bit of Wikipedia perusing myself too. Chain armor does seem like a nice way to block bladed weapons.

Hm. I thought iron armor would be standalone. I knew the intended usage of chain armor, but I thought that iron armor was basically a direct upgrade in terms of protection strength. Didn't know that horses and lances were used specifically for that. What were "crawlers", though? People trying to stab the horses from below?

Not sure what you mean by the bit about stone swords. Do you mean that it'd swing faster but still deal the same damage as if you'd used a stone sword? Seems pointless then.

Making diamond slower than gold wouldn’t make sense. In fact, putting weight into this would likely over complicate matter, as Steve could be holding stacks of cube meter gold blocks while running, which would theoretically crush Steve.

I actually made Gold weigh the most and Diamond the least.

Maybe the weight can be based off of your armor bar. Every half a chestplate makes you 1% slower. With full diamond, you'd be 20% slower.
How about this?: Evert 1% of the bar durability missing would also increase speed by 0.045% per armor. By the time the durability gets to 1% the armor weight will only slow you down by 0.045% per armor. Full durability will still be 4.5% of speed reduction per armor.

Believe it or not, the aether mod remake actually added a weight system. Just pointing that out so you can see what it might be like.
Thanks for letting me know.

I think it would be best to not add any more defense points to leather armor. The fact that it actually provides any perfection from weapons already doesn't make sense. And it should still be bad armor. In leal life, leather clothes are used for protection from heat and small thorns from things like cactus, nails, and bird talents. They where also used for better protection when handling weapons from the blades and heavy objects like small hammers and rocks while working with pickaxes and rock grinding, etc. I think it would be best if the only added protection was no cactus damage and better heat protection if the developers do end up adding a temperature system... Now that I think about it, I think I'll edit the thread to change it's spastic protection.

Crawlers are the people crawling on the ground, usually because they're, tending to another opposition, or taking cover from riders to slay their animals. Iron armor could also be used by itself; however, It wouldn't be as efficient sense it by itself would weigh more and would be easier to penetrate through with swords and axes. Sense swords and axes where still the majority of primary weapons, they would usually just stick to chain-meal. The chain-meal itself would also help cushion blows to the iron armor and the body itself.

Maybe the weight can be based off of your armor bar. Every half a chestplate makes you 1% slower. With full diamond, you'd be 20% slower.
Density of diamond is 3.5 grams per cube cm.
Density of gold is 19.3 grams per cube cm.
Making diamond slower than gold wouldn’t make sense. In fact, putting weight into this would likely over complicate matter, as Steve could be holding stacks of cube meter gold blocks while running, which would theoretically crush Steve.
Believe it or not, the aether mod remake actually added a weight system. Just pointing that out so you can see what it might be like.

I actually made Gold weigh the most and Diamond the least.

How about this?: Evert 1% of the bar durability missing would also increase speed by 0.045% per armor. By the time the durability gets to 1% the armor weight will only slow you down by 0.045% per armor. Full durability will still be 4.5% of speed reduction per armor.
