The Bamboo Forest would be a new, somewhat rare biome that would spawn in the overworld. Obviously, it contains tall bamboo trees. It would make a great addition to the game, since more biomes would be cool and add diversity to the landscape. So, let me go a little more in depth.
Bamboo
The Bamboo trees are different then normal trees. First, they aren't full blocks, and their dimensions are similar to that of a fence. However, it is slightly shorter than a fence, so you can still jump over them. Secondly, They grow much taller than normal trees, about 2/3 the height of a Jungle Tree. Finally, unlike other trees, you can't get Bamboo leaf blocks. Also, Bamboo trees can be different colors too. Either Yellow or Green, depending on if you find them in a Green or Yellow Bamboo Forest. There's also the chance of finding a Hybrid forest, which is much rarer.
Bamboo planks have a unique look to them unlike their carbon-copy cousins. Instead of just looking like a bunch of planks mashed together, they look like a bunch of bamboo sticks...mashed together. This creates a very unique looking pattern and is perfect for making a cool looking house. Also, like all the other planks, they also have stairs and slab variants. However, you have to craft smooth bamboo to make them. Smooth Bamboo works well for floors and ceilings, and looks similar to normal wooden planks, only shinier.
Pango
Pango would be a new, neutral mob that spawns in the Bamboo forest. It looks similar to a Giant Panda, except they're bipedal. One of its defining features is a long piece of Bamboo that it drags around. When aggravated, it will use this log to whack whatever provoked it, dealing roughly 5HP of damage. It has 50HP, and, upon death, drops a Bamboo Club. The Bamboo Club can also be crafted with a stick and 2 pieces of Bamboo. The Bamboo Club would be a new weapon that deals 6HP of damage. However, before each swing, it has to be charged in order for it to deal its full amount of damage.
This sounds good, though bamboo trees being as tall as jungle trees is a little too large in my opinion; one of the special things about jungles is that their trees are so tall you can see them from a distance, unlike other biomes.
Other than the new wood, what would be in the bamboo forests? Since there's not much stuff (other than the special wood) in this biome, it should probably be smaller than most biomes. I think it would also be cool if there was a third kind of forest that has both the yellow and the green bamboo trees.

It would make a great addition to the game, since more biomes would be cool and add diversity to the landscape. So, let me go a little more in depth. Liking this so far, more biomes is always good. BambooThe Bamboo trees are different then normal trees. First, they aren't full blocks, and their dimensions are similar to that of a fence. However, it is slightly shorter than a fence, so you can still jump over them. How do the logs stack then, or connect with leaves? This would mess with the blocky grid. Secondly, They grow much taller than normal tree, about the height of a jungle tree, Agree with Wolftopia, this is too tall. Maybe half the height. Thirdly, in order to craft Bamboo Planks, the player must use four Bamboo logs instead of just one. This is to prevent the player from getting too much wood, since there would be a ton of them. There's a ton of wood in all the biomes. What makes this different? Not only is it unrealistic, bamboo trees are also unnecessarily complicated. and Finally, unlike other trees, you can't get Bamboo leaf blocks. Now you are just limiting the player's building opportunities. Also, Bamboo trees can be different colors too. Either yellow or Green, depending on if you find them in a Green or Yellow Bamboo Forest. Neat, I assume this means green and yellowish wooden planks. Agree with wolfotpia that a hybrid forest could work.

However, before each swing, it has to be charged in order for it to deal its full amount of damage. No no no now this sounds like a poor mod. Do you really want the best weapon in the game to be a bamboo club dropped by a panda? Imo diamond should always be the strongest. But if you really wanted to make another strong weapon, shouldn't it drop somewhere late game you have to work towards (ex: the end). Not a bamboo forest you could spawn in day one. Also how often do pangos spawn?

Responces in bold. I like the basic idea but some little features create more problems than solutions.
I agree to some of this - mainly the bamboo wood/planks (not the Mob)
First, they aren't full blocks, and their dimensions are similar to that of a fence.
However, it is slightly shorter than a fence, so you can still jump over them.
Partially Disagree - If you look at pictures of bamboo forests you find they are single stemmed plants but grow in groups.
Now IF you meant that whats grows are blocks like single fenceposts stacked on top of one another, but having several in clumps (But not joining each other like fence posts do) then I probably agree
Secondly,They grow much taller than normal trees, about the height of a Jungle Tree.
As for height - Bamboo can grow quite tall, but I doubt as tall as Jungle trees - so perhaps half to 2/3 this height ??
Thirdly, in order to craft Bamboo Planks, the player must use four Bamboo logs instead of just one.
This is to prevent the player from getting too much wood, since there would be a ton of them.
Also slightly disagree - I would suggest a slightly different mechanic to Bamboo Planks.
For example - since bamboo is naturally thin then we should 'reverse' the standard wood crafting.
In this I mean we start off with bamboo 'sticks' instead of logs, A row of 3 Bamboo (sticks) makes a Plank (about 1/2 thickness of a slab).. 4 (or 9) x Planks make a bamboo block
I'd like to suggest something additional.
With Bamboo 'planks' you can place them similar to glass panes - allow to make interesting bamboo 'walls' - or on floors (like carpet)
Finally, unlike other trees, you can't get Bamboo leaf blocks.
Agree - since they a fairly small leaves anyway. what I'd suggest that is Bamboo drops leaf 'item' which can be planted (like seeds) to allow growing more bamboo
Also, Bamboo trees can be different colors too. Either yellow or Green, depending on if you find them in a Green or Yellow Bamboo Forest.
Actually it seems Bamboo can be either black, green, golden & green, golden, gray, red, yellow or powder blue, so perhaps we could have some of these colours (maybe not the 'Gold') & could use the 'leaves' item for creating suitable Dyes since we currently have limited items to produce certain colour dyes (eg Lapis = blue, Cactus = Green, Ink sacs= Black)

This seems like it would be kind of weird and not really fit in with the rest of the game. Also, the bamboo club would be very overpowered unless it had an attack speed around that of a diamond axe. It would also just feel...odd. Why couldn't you just make it yourself out of bamboo?
At the moment, I give no support for this suggestion, but I think you can improve it.

How does the mob not fit? This is a game with weird laser pufferfish that guard a treasure, which is SPONGES by the way. and gun-toting mollusks. How is a giant panda monster with a club not fit in?

Pandas are supposed to be peaceful, are they not? This type of irony doesn't really fit in with the rest of the Minecraft world in my opinion.
The red panda would fit in a bit. They would drop red panda pelt and you can use it to craft armor and tools, but the armor has the same durability but half a chest plate of armor for each piece more than leather armor, but the tools are about 2% better than wooden ones.

I'm pretty sure that I put there that they were NEUTRAL. Plus, do you think that a giant panda would just sit there and get attacked? Hell no! Those strong fists and jaws aren't just for eating Bamboo y'know.
I quite like the biome description; the idea of less_than_full_block "trees" that one could walk between (like non-joining fenceposts) would offer something new (and could make combat rather "interesting" ).
Keeping bamboo logs "slightly shorter than a fence, so you can still jump over them" (similar to Iron Bars) is a nice distinction.
I'd prefer bamboo be functionally distinct from the other wood blocks. [Or, at least, that possibilties other than a new wood plank block that looks like "a bunch of bamboo sticks...mashed together" be available.]
Perhaps bamboo "wood" blocks could be placed horizontally (following the end rod placement mechanics).
Bamboo might also be craftable (5 blocks in an 'X') into an opaque "Bamboo Mat" that could be placed either vertically (as glass panes are) or horizontally (as is carpet). [Roughly speaking, a renamed version of CannonFoddr's Bamboo 'planks' with different crafting and thickness. ]
Agree with the comments about height: I'd suggest 7-10 or 9-12. [Possibly a mega variant could work, but I'd like to see the shorter 'normal' biome first.]
I don't see a pressing need for another leaf block (nor a reason bamboo should not produce one). Neutral.
Rather than the leaves dropping saplings, perhaps bamboo could be further differentiated from trees by allowing the base block (the one immediately above the soil) to be harvested and drop as a sapling by right clicking with one's axe. [Base blocks would drop as wood, but not be replantable if chopped and would only be usable as saplings if harvested via right click; upper blocks would only be choppable.]
(To provide some means of increasing one's forest, perhaps some (10%?) of harvested base blocks would drop as two saplings.)
I agree that the biome needs soemthing beyond the "trees", but am not fond of the Pango; too much similarity to the 1930's Hollywood B-movie "killer ape" trope for my tastes.
The Red Panda mentioned above, BTW, is nearer a racoon than a giant panda in size, appearance and behavior.
Parrots might be expanded to this biome, but a general lack of grass would limit them to initial generation without extensive intervention by the player.
The Giant Panda is iconic (and already has supporters) but would need, IMO, to be more functional than the polar bear.

I'd like to be able to offer some sort of alternative in-game use ofr the Giant Panda, but the RL critter seems neither to interact with humans much nor to much beyond eat & excrete…
…and an atmosphere mob doesn't seem sufficient.
