For those who don't know, the bloom effect is a shader effect that makes objects look like they are glowing by blurring their edges. This looks like the following:

This would of course be configurable. In the "Video Settings" section of the options menu there would be a slider that allows the user to adjust the degree at which there is a bloom. (Sliding the slider all the way to the left would completely turn off the bloom effect.)
If you're wondering how this would look in-game, you can look at screenshots of shaders, or even just clips from Minecraft: Story Mode. Even the poster for Minecraft: Story Mode has the bloom effect in it:
If you look closely at the torch (or the monster's teeth), it is utilizing the bloom effect.
As you can see, having an option for the bloom effect would allow players to greatly improve the look of their game without the use of mods or shaders that are too graphically demanding.
Thank you for the support! I guess it could, though the Minecraft sunset is classic for many people. What about as a second setting called "Sun: Classic/Fancy"?
As usual I have no objection to any kind of visual option like this so I definitely support. I probably wouldn't use it though, personally.

Deleted the discussion of just using Shaders instead of implementing this, as saying to use a mod/resource pack/shader pack instead of implementing an idea is against our rules.

This looks nice. Would this also affect the sun?
Support.
