This idea is for a simple block, which, when powered by redstone, causes blocks besides and below it to be transformed into minecraft:falling_block entities, with the Block and Data tags set appropriately so that those blocks will get properly recreated if/when they hit ground. Obviously certain blocks should be immune, such as air, bedrock, portal blocks, etc., but ideally, the vast majority of minecraft blocks should be vulnerable.
The recipe would be one redstone block, surrounded by four sand and four gravel.
The most obvious use would be be for traps, but it might be possible to use for automatic mining or automatic construction.
This would be really interesting, but I think the recipe should be changed to use a special item instead of just sand. Maybe some new item from the Nether could be used in the crafting recipe.
One of the few issues I can see with this is that, since falling blocks can be broken and obtained when they fall on torches, that Silk Touch could become less useful. Maybe the blocks that aren't normally effected by gravity destroy torches and such when falling to prevent this.
For the block, support, but for the recipe, no support.
If they keep blockstates/nbt then you could use it to move tile entities (eg. Making it fall and launching it with slime blocks), and also if you put items in a chest make it fall on a torch then you could put that chest in a chest and make it fall on a torch then you could put that chest in a chest and make it fall on a torch then you could put that chest in a chest and make it fall on a torch then you could put that chest in a chest and make it fall on a torch etc. allowing for
Infinite Storage Which Minecraft is Greatly avoiding, and also [it might be possible to use for automatic mining or automatic construction.] And that would be taking Minecraft in the wrong direction and you could attach it to a flying machine and AFK while the machine gives you tons of diamonds and I don't think Minecraft is very fun if you spend most of the time playing AFK, and also you would be able to make piston heads/extensions fall making headless pistons/breaking bedrock Much easier which is a bad thing seeing as your not supposed to break bedrock in the first place, and not to mension if all this happens if powered by redstone then what's stopping it from making the redstone source fall.
