We need teleporters so we can teleport to different spots on the map the teleporters should be made of different colored wool and the same size as the nether teleporter and they should need two teleporters of the same color linked and the maximum amount of teleporters is all the colors of wool available and so the teleporters must be all the same color to be linked and should be activated by flint and steel
Lets put a TP from my house to spawn point so that if im building a really high building and risking death to do so it doesnt really matter because all I have to do is walk through a portal.
Also you would be able to travel long distances very quickly
At least go through the work and build it using the nether

Heaven forbid we make it faster to go places...
Seriously though, what is needed are better transportation systems. I'm personally quite in favor of coding which would allow minecarts to go through nether portals, for one, as well as better mine cart propulsion systems (boosters that don't require a glitch would be a fair place to start).
IF (and that's a big if) one were to include teleporters in the game, they would have to be resource-intensive to acquire or run. One might use a system similar to smelting where you'd put some sort of fuel in the box. They should have to be something achieved and worked at like a nether portal fast travel system.
Hey, if the tedium is a determinate of worth and payoff, I'm all for it, hell it's why diamonds bring such rejoicing. If it's just a pointless grind...bah humbug.
I am personally against teleporters because their existance makes the nether obselete. Even if you made the reagents to teleport requisite of netherrack/soulsand/glowstone; people would simply farm everything they need.
Example to illustrate crudely stated point:
If it costs 2 glowstone to activate a teleport; people would simply gather 3 or so stacks and not have to worry about the nether for weeks.
That a mod exists for something is never ever ever ever ever a compelling reason it should not be proposed as a potential improvement upon the game. This is a beta we're working on.

Too easy to aquire.
Propose an alternative.

The nether has one less use. It need more uses.
True beyond true, but let's also come to grips with the fact that it does not serve this purpose well.

1) agreed, however if/untill this is added, I would use the mods availible. I am not completly against suggesting things that are currently mods, but would add to the game if they became vanilla. (I think someone suggested that betterlight become vanilla. Not 100% sure though.)
2) I do not feel like I need to.
3) It serves its purpose fine. It is supposed to have some risks. (However, the ghasts/lava threat is completly non-existant once you bring in some cobblestone, and build roofs and walls.) The only problem I see with the nether is that it is under-used.

1) There are mods for teleportation. (Runecraft, I believe)
2) Too easy to aquire.
3) Flint and steel would burn the wool used for the teleportation.
4) The nether has one less use. It need more uses.
5) Fast travel? Use a minecart booster in the nether. Not an instant warp, but it's still quite fast.

It's under-used for a reason.
Which is why the nether needs an update.
