I woudn't call this Galactica at all, it would call this StargateCraft or Portalcraft. Since this is essentially what this is about.
Except Stargate is trademarked and Minecraft already has portals, so why not name it after the new concept being added to Minecraft?
The argument that spaceships don't fit into fantasy setting of minecraft is hogwash. There this thing called steampunk who don't care about super scifi stuff. If you look up in the internet Spelljammer where sailing ships are using in a fantasy setting to sail the ink black space.
Except, Minecraft's little amounts of magic has never really fit a steampunk description IMO... Steampunk is like a mixture of technology and magic, while Minecraft seems to have pure magic that could be occasionally explained as technology, such as redstone being electricity.
Coding is hard, very hard.
Okay stop.
I've (attempted to, anyway) coded mods before, I've seen the capabilities of other people's mods for this game. But yet, unless you're going to bring up arguments with actual knowledge of how Minecraft works, can you please never use this as an argument again? Also, coding is Mojang's job. Making new decorative blocks isn't actually work for them, that's just copying and pasting the same function call and creating a new texture.
Complicated with lengthy codes if you have something that uses movecraft that shows big vehicles moving (by teleporting them every half-dozen blocks per movement).
Why did you argue against spacecraft with "coding is hard, Mojang can't make spaceships", then do a complete 180° and say "this other mod did it though, so we should have spaceships"
This good work, you should team up with others help you get more content. Worlds you have players goto need something more, like alien ruins or 1 unique mob if that's possible.
The thing about building spaceships is that if you lose your spaceship, you are stranded on whichever planet you are on. This is not an issue with portals (Well, Ghasts can blow your portals to bits, but it's easy to get around this by carrying around flint and steel.) and portals don't require fuel like you would expect a spacecraft to do.
Even if they didn't require fuel, if you can fly a spacecraft into space, you'd also expect them to be able to fly over normal terrain. Oops, we accidentally introduced infinite flight that doesn't require rockets!
The portal system is just... more Minecraft-y. We've never seen spacecraft-scale vehicles before, but portals are a very familiar sight in Vanilla Minecraft. It's also the best way to make the idea of other planets give off a fantasy vibe and less of a sci-fi one.

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
I'm a horribly pedantic person, so I'll correct you: steampunk, at its base, is about 18-19th century tech being used to accomplish far more than it could in real life. That means things like steam powered tanks, flying zeppelin galleons, and spider mechs with piston legs and gatling guns. It can include magic, but it's not a critical part of the story.
Redstone itself might be some form of enchanted substance, but other things are solidly in the mechanical scale; things like dispensers, pistons, levers, and whatnot. Really, to at all quantify Minecraft's technology is a fallacy in and of itself; the gap between its high and low tech is 700 years or more, and things pop up all over the place. That doesn't mean it has a theme- a sort of adventurous Medieval/Renaissance tech level world with random abberations, perhaps overall settling at around 1500-1550- but it's nowhere near solidly set the way a game like Skyrim is.

Now that I think about it, that's probably a more accurate description of steampunk, although I wouldn't say it's an accurate description of Minecraft.

Minecraft's technology is a mess, but I can tell you that anything from beyond the earliest of the 1900s is pretty much out of the picture, and we're not even talking about rockets here, we're talking about spaceships which can retain enough fuel to escape the orbit of a planet, enter the orbit of another planet and return to the original planet all without needing to leave behind rocket stages or temporary fuel tanks.
Now, sure, the space travel physics don't have to be realistic, this isn't Kerbal Space Program, but even beyond style, there are other balance related reasons why spacecraft aren't the best way to travel around the galaxy, the main one being the fact that if you die on a planet, your spacecraft remains in orbit around the planet or landed on the planet and you're back on the Overworld. But if you can get there via a portal in the Overworld, you don't have to worry about this issue.

I agree, all of the new updates only add a new bad guy or some new pvp things.
I think adding the planets from star wars, the moon that xenomorphs are from in alien, and our own solar system will have the moons for each planet like europa or titan, and the planet FMM-UV32 from carnivores.
My opinion is instead of random planets, pre-created planets, this would make them more interesting but they ones made up could have different terrain generation, these pre-created planets would let you make a base there and go back later, if youèd like to explore it again.
I like travelling from the end, the end is a planet.
Oh, maybe you suggested random i suggested pre-made, some could be pre-created and you can also go to randomely generated ones. does that sound ok?

That might work. There could be a couple preset planets, which are coded to be easier to find than the random ones. Still finding one would be very rare, almost an easter egg from the developers. I think anything from an existing franchise isn't possible from copyright, but Mojang could make a few parodies of them. Though many business opportunities could exist with Microsoft patterning with say the Alien franchise to create the Alien planet as a rare preset. They've made custom skins before and once the planet creation is in place shouldn't be too hard to create presets. There could also be Alpha, which is designed to replicate Minecraft Alpha terrain gen. The three other terrestrial planets could be added with minimal effort. But I won't suggest all the custom planets they should add, that sounds like something Mojang should decide.
The custom planet command for preset would just be /planet [presetName].

You're absolutely right. If someone created SciFi and put it as an update, Minecraft would seem like a Paradox, it would lose the meaning that it does not have.
According to theories, Minecraft takes place in the modern age, era that did not exist spaceships, maximum meteors (which would be incredible in minecraft)
First of all, this is the first idea I’ve seen on this forum, since I just made this account. And. It. Is. Awesome.
it is so well thought out, answers many questions we may have had, and more!
I would like to ask if I, or you, can add this to reddit. I feel like you will get attention there, as well as constructive criticisms, and other ideas. There, there will be a chance the devs will see it.
Now, on to my criticisms:
There will be way to many space rocks. How could you fit that all into the creative inventory? I suggest making it so there is a set amount (20-100) of kinds of space rock. In the generation system, it will randomly give you any one kind of space rock. It doesn’t depend on other planetary/sky/fog colors.
There is rock, but no dirt or grass...? Unless I read wrong, grass doesn’t generate. I would make regular grass generate if the planet has water/ice/acid. A grass/foliage color map is generated for each planet, giving the grass, as well as tree leaves, and any other plants that may generate, a color, loosely based on sky/fog colors.
Also, unless I read wrong, you can get multiple moons, but not multiple suns... I suggest here that a planet comes with anywhere from 0-4 suns, with 0 being the rarest. These suns of course come in different sizes and colors. If the planet has 0 suns, it will be eternally night time there.
There should be a reason to go to planets, other than space rock and acid. There should be special blocks, trees (wood), plants, etc. that generate on specific/all planets which meet the parameters to generate them. Maybe have special loot only found on these planets?
The alien mobs need to be reworked. Right now, there are an infinite number of them. In no way could that work if they had spawn eggs, unless they were all confined to one spawn egg, that spawned different variations, like tropical fish spawn eggs. And, maybe instead of them taking already made models from in game mobs, they should have their own models. As in, there should be a couple types of aliens, with their own completely separate and unique model from other mobs. They should also drop some item, that makes them worthwhile to kill.
other than those, i really like this suggestion! I would love it if this became an actual suggestion! This is Reddit worthy!

In the generation system, it will randomly give you any one kind of space rock. It doesn’t depend on other planetary/sky/fog colors. There would only be one generic space rock than when placed is gray. The millions of rocks wouldn't be "made" until someone goes to a planet where that rock coloration is present (if that makes sense). That way each rock can have it's own name based off the planet name. All space rocks share the same texture, only with a random color filter. For example, if you found a orange planet and named it "Jeb", when you mine that orange rock it will say "Jeb rock". But before you entered the endfrost to Jeb that block didn't exist.

Something along the lines of 75% 1 star, 15% 2 stars, 5%, 3 stars, 5% no star.

This has not been the first time someone has brought this up, and you're certainly right. My issue is I want the space dimensions (at least for the purposes of this) to open-ended. I don't know how to explain this... I feel as soon as I start adding planet specific content planets will feel empty. I was intending on planets being an open opportunity, a place where modders can do whatever they want for max customization. But in retrospect, I can't rely on modding with a suggestion for vanilla Minecraft.

I think the best way for me to go about adding content to outer space is to have say 20 unique blocks/items that rarely generate on planets. Each would have a use, to all playerbases would be happy. For example, an intoxicating flower when held pacifies enemies (but when it's in use loses durability fast). It will take a while for me to make these- they must be balanced but also rewarding.

Um... I don’t think so. If your computer can handle going through a portal to a randomly generated nether or end, it can handle this.
Dont take “infinite dimensions” the wrong way. Before you visit a planet, none of that stuff even exists. The code is there, but it’s not running or anything.
As long as you only go to a few planets, your computer should be fine (as far as I know).
You are correct, Mojang will likely never accept this. But it's been a long time since they take a leap of faith, do something that would change the game for the better. The idea behind this suggestion isn't too complicated. We have x y z axis per world. There are only 3 worlds but infinite axises. Now, can we make infinite worlds that extend infinitely? This suggestion is crazy, but it does so to push Minecraft to its ultimate potential.
And making a suggestion with the belief it will be added isn't a good idea. Mojang really only listens to little suggestions like change the font of "you cannot during the day". It's all for fun with the little chance of them considering your idea.

You're also right, in my opinion. Unless you change that, you will not be able to make spaceships. Maybe hot air balloons and zepilins.

Let's reflect this update. My computer has 4GB of RAM, 2.8GHz processor, GPU: Intel HD (Mother-Board)
Minecraft requires 2GB of RAM, with this update will get very, very heavy.
My PC runs minecraft at 12 fps, imagine with this update.

Reflecting a lot, this update is not so bad. Until it is good, but unfortunately Mojang would not put it...
