Hay Notch you should put up billboards or something with commercials on them so you can make more money. Maybe not billboards, but maybe like when your sleeping it would just randomly flash "Coke Cola" with no warning.

You can not build enough bricks to save your soles.
Also a kind of nostalgia about the game is it is known to be passed by "word of mouth"-read that somewhere but could not find where exactly. And many of the players know that Notch isn't out there to just make a bunch of money, its his baby. He made the game originally for himself and started to make money off it, but its still a game he wants to enjoy playing.
I'm not saying that if a bunch of people start playing or if he makes ads he wont like playing. I'm just saying his first agenda is to make the game enjoyable for him and the players he has. I mean you watch the documentary trailer yet? He's a teddy bear!

Mojang is a business. Businesses that are not in the category of non-profit and not-for-profit are in business for.... you guessed it.... profit.
In either case, billboards are an extremely inefficient way of marketing most things. The reason behind this is that Minecraft has a very, VERY specific niche, while things like car companies (the majority of what you see on billboards) appeal to anybody who is legally and financially able to purchase a car. Which, if you think about it, is a HELL of a lot more people than the amount interested in playing computer games, let alone a sandbox computer game.
A Honda billboard in a strategic location of a huge city with daily traffic on that road of, say, 1 million viewers, would convert, for example, 15% of its viewers to buy a new Honda within a 6 month period. This would generate a LOT more money than what they are paying for the billboard, given the profit per unit of a new Honda car and compounded interest rates from loans, if the loan is granted from Honda Financial.
Now if Mojang were to rent a billboard in the same location, it's most likely that only 5% of its viewers are interested in videogames. Now, out of that 5%, probably less than 1% would be interested in a sandbox game like Minecraft. Let's use 0.5%. 0.5% of 1 million is 5,000. Out of that, probably only half that would buy the game. So, $15 x 2500 = $37,500. In an area like Boston or New York City, that wouldn't even cover half the cost of 1 month's rent for a billboard.
So far, Notch has been able to generate over 1.5 million sales by viral marketing alone, which is 100% free and requires almost none of his time, aside from the initial phases of getting it seen by enough people so that it takes off by itself. I've not seen ONE pay-per click ad for Minecraft. People finding out about Minecraft is the same way a lie is discovered. One person tells two people, those two people tell 2 more people each, and so on. Eventually, the whole world will know.
There are, however, methods of implementing some type of PPC campaign which would cost almost nothing, if done correctly, in combination with proper adsense campaigns and blogging on Mojang's part. Hell, Notch could even generate thousands more dollars per month with just adsense alone, given the traffic his website and blogs are seeing.

No, like billboards in the game. Not billboards of the game. And if Notch didn't want the money, then he could take all that money and pay some programmers to make stuff for it.

Ahh gotcha, hmm
I dont know what to say about it then to be honest. Seems like a joke, I mean if this happened what would stop advertising from being in a bunch of video games. I don't really like that idea. I feel like I already get enough advertising from television, movies and magazines. Kind of like my video games to be advertising free
It seems I misinterpreted the OP's suggestion. Since this is the case,

Mojang doesn't need more ads. It has enough money as is, and it's won 5 awards, which further increases playerbase.
