This is an awesome idea, but it would involve creating an EXTREMELY complicated AI for them. I mean, for them to be able to efficiently harvest resources and build, and recognize whether your actions were intended to steal their stuff or help them out... that would be a lot of very complicated coding which I doubt Dear Notch is up to.

Minecraft Beta 1.2: "I'll grind your bones to make my bread!"
Few thoughts, why not make it so they put something special on there walls, it would be soft like dirt, but look diffrent, like marking there territory, so if you break into there tunnel, you can fix it before they get mad. also, why not make a queen? so they can spawn and protect it, and if you need to get rid of them just kill the queen, then wait for them to die out, and have it so you had a chance to collect eggs? or better yet. just feed one sugar, and it will follow you like a wolf, and fight/dig tunnels for you? just a few thoughts. good work mate.
Environment: Subterranean AI: Neutral Drop: random crafted good (torch, soup, chest, ect) with more valuable items being rarer Misc: These ant-like creatures live beneath the surface of the world in mid to large sized colonies. Wherever a pathway reaches the surface, a tall spire of sand or dirt (depending on the location) rises into the sky.
The Myrmex are industrious and organized, collecting food and resources in large stores.
They have long since shrugged the heavy reins of a matriarch and have become more independent. They work together for the betterment of the colony.
If you help them expand and maintain the colony, they will gladly share their abundant resources. If you choose instead to steal what they have worked so hard to collect, they will attack. And they can dig, so it's not a good idea to anger them.
The Myrmex would be another group AI mob. They would be able to dig at about the same rate as the player, but would also be able to scale walls as if they had ladders (except glass).
Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions!
No support, too OP. I dont want ender ants digging tunnels on my map. I dont want too help them expand, we cant even talk to villagers yet and you wnt to introduce tlaking ants.
very clever! however i would suggest removing the two extra legs, as they make the ant people look clunky. i would suggest making them look like humanoids with a different face and body structure. Overall, its a great idea and I hope to see something like this in the game, although I do not expect them to have a more complicated society as villagers do. These varmints (lol) remind me of the Selenites from "The First Men in the Moon" by H.G. Wells, whom were insect-like aliens that lived in a socialized utopian society (although the system is a mere fantasy). However, I would prefer to see them as some hostile race of barbarians that you must defeat to take the riches in their colony. Either way, nice work!
