Make it a part of SMP and have each server have the option to toggle said feature on and off. If enabled, a player can log in as a creeper randomly spawned in general proximity to a player. You have an attack key which makes the creeper go kaboom but it can only be used in a certain range of the player (like an actual creeper) so you couldn't just demolish player buildings at random. For the lulz have a hotkey to go TSSSSSS at will. Perhaps give creeper controlled players enhanced night vision. You could also give admin control to say limit the number of times a player can control a creeper within a set period of time. Example, an admin could set the limit to control 1 creeper in a 24 hr period or 10 creepers in a 12 hr period, whatever they choose at their discretion.
I'm sure you could also work in some sort of reward system that could transfer over to the actual player for amassing kills and destruction.
this actually as some potential. it would be cooler if it could be a server mode, like man vs creep(er) were you randomly get assighned to a team.humans or creepers. creepersdoing there thingand humans stoping the creepers from doing there thing.
So it would be kind of like Vs. mode in Left 4 Dead?
That would be a fun addition, once SMP is actually finished that is. It is still in testing and balancing right now and there are a lot of problems with it right now. So until that is finished and all the bugs are removed, then that could be a plug-in playstyle.
This sounds like quite the radical departure from the game's current focus on exploration and building.
Plus, it feels like it was lifted completely from Left 4 Dead... But with a Creeper.

You don't have to participate, and your server should have an option to completely disable this suggested mode. Yes it's kinda like L4D, a lot like it I suppose except I think it could tally up your damage/kills or whatnot into some sort of point system in which the server admin can set point values like currency to redeem for your actual player... Just kinda brainstorming.
I understand it's not exploration and building but creepers gonna do their thing, why not let a player do it for them and open up new reward and gameplay possibilities? And again, it's OPTIONAL.

The "it's optional" argument... Doesn't quite do it for me. As some will tell you, it's a bit of a cop-out argument. I won't go much farther into that, though, because someone's likely to get angry debating the merits of such an argument.
