Okay, before you go and say "Oh, this is stupid." or "Oh, this is too 'modern' for minecraft" or crap like that, please read the whole thing before you post, and if that doesn't changes your mind, please post why you don't like it in a reasonable, informed manner. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Onto the actual post
What do you think of ... wait for it ... Minecraft in SPACE! I think it would be cool if you could actually craft a rocket somehow and actually use it to fly to the moon and maybe colonize it or something. I don't know. I DO know, however that Sputnik, the first satellite to be launched to space, was launched in 1957, and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon in 1969. And personally I don't think that Minecraft should be bound to being old-fashioned or whatever, it's a game. So you should be able to craft some steel plating(a major ingredient) like this:
[] [] []
( = steel plating)
Then a cockpit like this:
( = control panel)
A control panel(for, well, controlling stuff):
( = lever, = redstone)
( could be like a pedal or something, the lever controlling the rocket, and the redstone connecting everything)
Then, A fuel tank:
It holds fuel, and would have its own GUI where you can put fuel into it. (Maybe flying each time uses a bit of fuel, you can put fuel in when you right click it with a hose or bucket of fuel or something(Might add hoses))
Then, a rocket nozzle:
( = fuel tank)
This is where the comes out of.
And a cone:
[] []
[]
Wouldn't be a rocket without a cone.
Finally, you craft it all together like this:
( = Cockpit, = Rocket Nozzle, and = Cone)
[] []
[] []
And then you get a rocket.
You place it in the world somewhere, maybe you have to place it on smoothstone in a certain radius or something to pose as a launch pad so it doesn't set the world on fire.
You can right-click it to use it if you don't have a hose or bucket of fuel or something in you hand, then it will show a small cutscene, with you looking out a window, which shows a generic minecraft world(or the actual one you're in if wants to add that feature in) slowly at first, but then quicker drop down (And it's upside down) and then it shows a loading screen, like "Loading the moon" and you get there, and if you didn't put on a space suit before hand, it's like being in lava, and if you can turn around and get back in your rocket you'll survive, otherwise, death and respawn. (lawlz).
Space suit can be crafted basically like iron armor, except the chestplate would need an air tank or something, and it would put bubbles in the bottom right corner, like being under water, except it lasts much longer and works underwater too!(Because astronauts train underwater) it can be crafted like this:
Where the could be something like charcoal, which is gotten by smelting . That would make and airtank, by the way.
Then you craft a space helmet like this:
And a astronauts back pack like this: []
Where = airtank.
Then you equip these as armor (They work the same as iron armor, only different) along with 2 other armor that are iron or better (pants and shoes)
The landscape of the moon could be made of moonstone, which could be a new item, and could have bumps and small hills and craters and stuff. Oh and don't forget seas! (Giant places that are low in elevation and covered in dust.)
Oh, and sticking with the minecraft trend, the core is . (Adminium is called opblock? Lawl). If you wanted it to be more realistic, the moon would always be bright, considering its always full in-game. Then you could go to the dark side, which would always be dark. And any mobs that spawned on the moon would suffocate quickly and die. You can only survive with a spacesuit, and the bubbles would slowly(SLOWLY) deteriorate, and then you it could be refilled with an air compressor or something by right-clicking while wearing it( = and airtank )
You place it, and it makes an air compressor. I already explained that. please post if you think this is a good/bad idea, and post your ideas/suggestions/comments/criticisms(Please be reasonable), and I will change it if I think it's a good idea.

There could be aliens, zero gravity, and moon rocks!
EDIT: Oh yeah, I should probably make a banner or something. If someone could make one for me, that would be awesome and 's to you. PM me about it. Until then, could someone tell me how to upload the banners or whatnot and I will get to work in Paint.NET

EDIT:Yay! I finished it! not very pretty, but it'll do. Can someone fix it? I don't know how to. preferably an artist.
I don't know how to put it in the sig or anything, so here's the link:

lawl.
I think your right, aside from the moonstone the moon would be made out of, which is basically smooth stone without the smelting.
I'd have to say that maybe the dark side of the moon would have a nice mineral to collect? hmmm... moonjewels... Interesting...
And maybe some stuff in the moonstone(CHEESE!!!! OMNOMNOMNOM!). Like other minerals, or moonrock, which could be used as a tool material?
Smoothstone without the smelting is cobblestone...

If I say anything stupid, assume I'm tired.
I meant that it looks very much like smooth stone, even when you mine it, but you don't have to smelt.
You can't really make a 'portal' to the moon. That's not how it works.
