As I woke up this morning, there were three things that appeared in my mind.
1. God (there was a sermon playing on my CD/Radio Clock
2. Going to my friend's house later
3. Minecraft
I just realized that MC is still lacking some sounds. For instance, there is no crackle of fire for torches or Furnaces, and there is no squelch from eating a raw porkchop, and no crunch for eating an apple. We need sounds for some actions.
Getting into a bed - Squeak of bed coils
Eating Apple - Apple crunch
Golden Apple - Slightly metallic crunch
Torches and Furnaces
- The crackle of a flame can be heard within 3-5 blocks of said torch
- The crackle of a flame can be heard within 5-10 blocks of a Furnace Eating a Raw meat - A squelch from the uncooked fluids in the hunk'a meat ya got there Eating a cooked porkchop/meat - A slight ripping sound of meat. Just go to your local Steakhouse.
Eating Bread - The ripping of bread. Try French Bread, the sound is more noticeable.
Cake - A slightly squishing noise from that delicious goodness. (no Portal References here)
Chest - Should hear a squeak of opening a door lid of an old chest
I noticed that there is a sound of flowing water, but not lava. Lava needs a constant, slow bubble and spattering noise when near.
It doesn't stop there. We also need some good hollow cave sounds when below level 30 (or the lower than you can be on the surface). Not everyone will like having a constant dripping noises and wind blowing, that could be an option in the GUI.
As for the Nether, we should have some slightly creepy music/SFX in the background most/all the time.
If I'm missing anything, please add to this idea. I'm sure this might be addressed without being raised to Notch's attention, but still!

"My name? Hah! I came up with that when I was young and foolish. About two years ago."
Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I think this is a great idea. Now, the creaking of a chest opening may be a little odd, but all of the other ideas are great. When you walk on glowstone it should make a hollow clanking noise.
I agree! Maybe when you shear a sheep you hear a little ripping sound, or if you take a bunch of fall damage, you hear your legs breaking... except they dont break. Or peaceful ambience noises, like birds singing. Also, wind flying past your ears when you fall.

Take a 2 horned creature related to the cow and make it excrete its wastes into a bucket.

He could also improve the sounds he has now, (man grunt annoying walking sounds etc.)
